|
|
Quick question, just wondering, as I leave this weekend for Korea, if I should exchange my Canadian money with me to American or Won before I leave? Or should I just bring the Canadian over with me? And any idea of how much I should bring over in cash as well?
Thanks in advance |

| You can exchange just about anything easily in any airport...shouldn't be a problem if you just bring Canadian. Exchanging at a Korean bank is a little more difficult but still do-able. |

Just bring your Canadian currency to Incheon Airport and exchange it there.
It's the easiest thing to do and you don't want to stress out about it later. |

I would bring in the region of 3million won for your first month.
People always say they can get by on less but you just never know and a slush fund is a nice fall just in case the mammaries point upwards. |

| Yeah, I was going to say MUCH less than that. Maybe in the area of 500,000-1,000,000. Of course, if you're at a public school job you get 300,000 just for making it here! |

| I always believe in having an exit plan. Turning up with a million won in your pocket and no return ticket doesn't leave many options if you really can't hack it. |

In pretty much every country in the world, you will get a better exchange rate there rather than in your home country.
Bring cash - exchange it at the airport. While many people have favorite exchange places and suggest that airports have ripoff rates - most airport bank-based exchanges have exactly the same rate as the their other branch banks.
Not really a problem. |

Some places pay the previous month's wages on the 10th, so if you're arriving on the 1st you could go 40 days before getting your first cheque.
You can get by on W500,000 a month, but W1,000,000 / month is much more comfortable. In addition to that I'd have an escape plan - i.e. a means of getting home in a hurry - in the event you have to pull an early runner. |

| Just bring your ATM card and use it while here. You don't need to bring more than $100 cash with you. |

| best to bring as much of whatever you have as you can, if you start exchanging you will lose. So don't bring US $ if you are from Canada. Whatever you do don't bring Korean Won. You get totally screwed over buying won from any other country except Korea. |
