I have a paper due in a couple of days...... a big one that I'm nowhere near finishing...

so of course I'm watching telly and checking emails... whatever i can to avoid doing anything constructive...

Anyway, America's Next Top Model is on telly. Now apart form the initial question of "what the hell is this american crap doing on australian tv?", i have a query..... am i missing something???

Out of all the models strutting around... not one do i find attractive. Not one.

Some are might have a somewhat ok face.... nice legs or whatever... Whole package combined however, there is not one that would turn my head in the street...

Now you wouldn't date a model for the stimulating conversation.... so you can sort of forgive the average model for personality defects. Providing of course that she has at least something going (personality-wise) for her apart from looks... These models don't... not that i've seen...

OUt of all the beautiful women in the USA (i'm sure there must be a few....... surely).... THESE are considered the best????


Am i missing something? Is it an american thing that the rest of the world doesn't understand? (such as the american preoccupation with talking about peoples bottoms.... ie- get your ass over here...... sit your ass down.... watch your ass........ put a cap in yor ass (???) etc etc..)

I've seen better looking women working at the woollies checkout...

I think it's premised on the whole girl next door makes it. Alot more women can relate to these women than they could gorgeous women who we all know could be models with or without the show. After all, if the women were really beautiful they wouldn't need the show to make it in modelling.

But when the girls are not so perfect people can better vicariously live through them.

The show definitely does not produce top models. I don't think any of these girls go on to lucrative modelling gigs after their show awarded modelling contracts are up.

If you go to youtube, they also have PHILIPPINES TOP MODEL, CANADA TOP MODEL, and GERMAN TOP MODEL.

I think the point is that they are trying to "broaden" the industry by finding models who aren't typically beautiful.

They have girls with large lips, big eyes that are too far apart, big foreheads etc. All of these traits are things that the girls have been poked fun of for their entire lives, but they're saying that they can actually photograph well, and are unique, and quite marketable apparently. No, they aren't all the "standard" of beauty. But they are bringing something new to the table, which is what they seem to talk about a lot on that show.

The girls on that show get uglier with every season. Did you see those ugly twins on the show last year? They looked like heroin addicts. Tall doesn't equate with beauty, in guys or girls.

I have nothing to say about the girls' appearances (that's just bad karma waiting to happen) but the attitude displayed by some of the chicks made me feel sorry for their co-contestants.
Especially two different seasons come to mind: the one where Melrose was picking on Anchal, which was wrong, but then Carrie D and Eugenia became ringleaders and started making Melrose's life there a living hell. Carrie D calling Melrose "fake" when she herself was being immature by picking on her was really something to watch.
Then there was another season that had this crazy girl from Hawaii who was trying to turn everyone against each other. She turned this plus size model from Jersey against the girl from GA, and then she herself turned on the Jersey girl and started making fun of her.
Shows like that don't really display women's beauty as much as they show the truth about why some women don't like being around large groups of other women. *shudder*
And yea, none of them went anywhere....may be karma for "attitude", I don't know. The most successful ones are always found by someone somewhere-just chilling at a restaurant or poolside or something, and an agent comes up to them.
PS Most supermodels aren't American anymore. There's a reason for that. Have ya'll noticed that when going on bookings in other countries, a lot of the girls on "America's NTM" were refused bookings because of attitude? It's not the look but the attitude is why. The attitude may also be why ya'll don't find them so attractive-the inner self always comes "out" and can overshadow one's physical beauty. Anyway, about the American attitude problem (and I say this being one myself), I also read that is why actresses are on the cover of Cosmo now, not models. It doesn't matter what you look like if you have an attitude problem.
I was wondering what ya'll thought of that show. It's embarassing that how mean many Americans TRULY are to each other is finally coming out via reality tv.
It all kind of sucks, actually. The way some people are acting is ruining it for the people who don't have an attitude. (because not everyone is like this in the States).
