"I feel your pain." (or I did before I strong armed my employer into getting me one.) But, you can buy one that hangs on your wall for 500,000 Won. Just spend the money. I would if I had to. Check E Mart.

I bought one on my own for about 500,000. I don't know how the last teacher put up with it. This one is a permanant one so I am not taking it with me. But it has been worth it. Cool. Cool. Cool these past weeks.

And as far as having to pay for it since it should have been provided; my concience is clear about some of the "extra" money I made this year. If you know what I mean.

But going through this last month and a half roasting for the sake of 500,000 didn't seem to make any sense to me.

Yeah, I wouldn't've signed this contract had I known AC wasn't standard. When I bitch, my bosses say "You have a fan, don't you?"

I say, "So you use just a fan? No aircon?"

They never answer.

However, my contract is up before June and it will be cool soon, so I'm not spending $500 on an AC.

I've had to do with the poor man's aircon before.

A cold shower and a fan was usually enough to get me to sleep.

Mine is up next month. Unless you stay more than a year, it stands to reason that you will only get one season out of it.

I have had apartments back home that didnt provide air-conditioning units. Granted , they are a heck of a lot cheaper there, but I have a heck of a lot more disposable income here too.

One sixth of one months income didnt seem to big a price to pay for the comfort I have had.

And it sure beat all those cold showers.

Aircon is fab, but it makes you very spoilt. The slightest imperfection and - bam - on it goes.

I begin using a/c in May.

Well, if I made 3 million, I might feel differently. However, I don't make 3 million. And I don't make anything "extra." Pimping myself out isn't on my agenda.

Also, I only got 7 days of vacation from my public school, and I was in Vietnam, where the AC wasn't going to help. So instead, at school, I crank my room's aircon down to 18 degrees and leave the room freakin' freezing. Sometimes I let the kids leave the windows and doors open Korean style, too. I never pay this bill... Twisted Evil

Yes you will. The environment is suffering already because of this sorts of action.

Eh, well, I'm not having kids.

And the fact that I'm not running AC at work and school should count for something.

You don't like it, PM me and I'll tell you where to send an AC unit.

How many bloody wusses are on here...

I have lived in korea for almost 6 years and have never had an air con....

I didn't die....in australia where I am from it is hotter than this and nobody i know has air conditioners...

I am not saying you shouldn't buy one but the way people go on about how it should be mandatory in your contract and I will be close to dying if I don't get one is pathetic...

A fan on at night is fine and a couple of cold showers a day...nothing like working up a good summers sweat in the day and having a cold shower.

There are a couple of situations where I would buy one...
1. had a pregnant wife..
2. had some youngins.

However if it is just me then it is fine

In saying all this I will probably buy one next year. not due to me but due to my wife. She complains about not having one as well and after a few years I might have finally given up Smile

Now we got one of those , "part-time work is so evil" purists.

Gag me.

And Vietnam. I have been working my butt off my whole life and a long time here in Korea and I have NEVER been able to afford to go to Vietnam.

How about taking care of first things first. What a hero. Vietnam vacation, lives in a sweatbox.

I kind of feel bad for posting this, but I have two a/c units in my apartment. One wall unit in the bedroom, one stand-up unit in the living room.

Very Happy
