The GST is the best tax the country has ever had. It was just politics using it to get elected (although only a retarded monkey wouldn't have been able to defeat Kim Campbell).

The governments at all levels should abolish sales taxes. Most leftists would agree that they are regressive.
But(and this is getting frightening) I have to agree with Hite that Harper blatantly broke campaign promises re.: income trusts and gun control. Harper said (after being elected) that a minority gov. is in no position to scrap gun control. Translation:he has to pander to Eastern latte liberals for reasons of political expediency.
Still, Harper is like a breath of fresh air in some respects, e.g. his uncompromising support for Israel. |

No government can keep all of its promises as situations change after an election; however, Harper has essentially kept his 5 core promises(with more work needed on health wait times). What other government in recent Canadian history can boast this? The Liberals in 1993 made a blatant lie about axing the GST, bringing in day care, etc. These were their "core promises". Mcguinty promised up to voting day not to raise taxes(his core promise), and broke it immediately.
Come on Hite, while you might not like the Tories' policies, you have to give them credit for keeping most of their promises and giving Canadians what they expected on voting day. It's a refreshing change for a country expected to be lied to by its politicians. |

I meant platform planks...although he is still working on the wait times for the hospitals.
And the GST is a terrible tax. Discouraging business and investment. |

Hey, a surplus is something to be proud of. Congratulations!
The U.S. could have been running a surplus, too, if it didn't have a war to run in Iraq. And those bribes don't come cheap. The U.S. dollar probably would be strengthening against the won, Euro, etc. And they could have afforded to cut taxes WITHOUT running up deficits to pay for the cuts.
Before Mr. Shrub took office (and I mean TOOK), the Clinton administration was running surpluses, too.
But not to worry. All we need are some more tax cuts for the uber-wealthy. That should get the economy humming again. Or at least the stock market. |

I run a surplus every month. It isn't hard to do.
Though, if I could just print money or raise taxes, I might be more irresponsible. |
