In the "Sky: It's Different" commercial in which the girl with the fishbowl on her head is "spacewalking" across her rooftop: What's the name of the song / band playing?

There's a relatively new Motorola commercial... can't describe too much about it, other than there's a Handsome Dude looking pretty pleased with his new phone... maybe.... too happy... anyway, band/singer/title anyone?

More to come....

What about the commercial with three models on a catwalk, and the song says "Mr. Big Shot you're gonna hate me"?

I was just happy to hear the Unicorns and the Flaming Lips in commercials here. Also made me a bit disappointed.

Hey, what's with this music for Cantata coffee?

It doesn't make any sense to have a waltz in 3/4 time playing for what is supposed to have something to do with a cantata, "a composition for one or more voices usually comprising solos, duets, recitatives, and choruses and sung to an instrumental accompaniment."

Don't Koreans know what a cantata is?

And what, specifically, does Johann Strauss' "Blue Danube" waltz have to do with Cantata bottled coffee?

It would have made more sense to use Bach's "Coffee Cantata" as the accompanying music for the ad.

Of course, the music would have been in German, presumably. I don't think the company would have actually wanted to have it in Korean. Unless they have a really good sense of humor.

Here is an English translation of an excerpt of Bach's "Coffee Cantata":

Quote:

Recitative Schlendrian
You wicked child, you disobedient girl, oh! When will I get my way? Give up coffee!

Lieschen
Father, don't be so severe! If I can't drink my bowl of coffee three times daily, then in my torment I will shrivel up like a piece of roast goat.

Aria Lieschen
Mm! how sweet the coffee tastes, more delicious than a thousand kisses, mellower than muscatel wine. Coffee, coffee I must have, and if someone wishes to give me a treat, ah, then pour me out some coffee!

Recitative Schlendrian
If you don't give up drinking coffee then you shan't go to any wedding feast, nor go out walking. Oh! when will I get my way? Give up coffee!

Lieschen
Oh well! Just leave me my coffee!

....

Recitative Narrator
Old Schlendrian goes off to see if he can find a husband forthwith for his daughter Lieschen; but Lieschen secretly lets it be known: no suitor is to come to my house unless he promises me, and it is also written into the marriage contract, that I will be permitted to make myself coffee whenever I want.

Trio
A cat won't stop from catching mice, and maidens remain faithful to their coffee. The mother holds her coffee dear. The grandmother drank it also. Who can thus rebuke the daughters?

Now that would be a much more interesting ad.

When I first contemplated the ads for Cantata coffee I envisioned the marketing department meetings discussing the ad campaigns for this future product:

Let's name it "Cantata Coffee."

Why?

Because it has a nice ring to it. And we could use the music from Bach's "Coffee Cantata." Bach = classy. Also, we would not have to pay royalties on the music.

That's a great idea!

Sample ad is made. They play it for the boss. Boss asks what the words they are singing mean.

Marketing manager gets fired.

They keep the name for the product cause it has a nice ring to it. Replacement picks a nice safe music score without any words.

Say, has anyone actually tried drinking this stuff?

I can't quite wrap my brain around the concept of bottled coffee. It's bad enough to be offered instant coffee with non-dairy creamer all the time.

What's more disturbing to me than their horrible song picks is the Samsung Card commercials that are running now. The one where they have the waygook white girl, who's apparently fluent in Korean, in the commercial acting Korean. It's a nice gimmick, I admit, but seeing a westerner behave so... Korean is more than a little freaky.

Ha! No, I hadn't seen that. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was freaked out by that.

How about that commercial with the song Dig, Dig, Dig, Dig, Digging...

I won't repeat the lyrics because they are obscene and offensive to women.

I wish they would take it off the air.

Wouldn't be able to add the titles of the songs, wouldja?

(Actually, I found the Unicorns song by Googling the lyrics, but have no clue about the other one...)

Sadly, I can answer this. It's a Sweetbox song "Superstar"

Mr big shot, youre gonna hate me
Mr big stuff,youre gonna suffer
Mr big shot, youre gonna learn your place

I used to think, quite a lot of you
Wished i could do,all the things you do
But honey,ive seen the light
Youve never been,on a movie screen
Hollywood,youve never seen
But you think youre too good for me
Aha aha

No no no no
Who the hell you think, you are
No no,youre not a superstar
No no no no
Who the hell you think, you are
No no,youre not a superstar

You walk around, like youre brad pitt
Dont even know, that youre full of shit
There are no billboards,of you
So tonight honey,say your prayers
Youre gonna hate me,but i dont care
Cause now its your turn to cry
Ohh no

No no no no
Who the hell you think, you are
No no,youre not a superstar
No no no no
Who the hell you think, you are
No no,youre not a superstar

Late at night, when you close, your eyes
Youll see me
Na na,na na na,na na
Who do you think you are
Na na na
Youre not a superstar,no

Mr big shot, youre gonna hate me
Mr big stuff,youre gonna suffer
Mr big shot, youre gonna learn your place

Mr big shot, youre gonna hate me
Mr big stuff,youre gonna suffer
Mr big shot, youre gonna learn your place

No no no no
Who the hell you think, you are
No no,youre not a superstar
No no no no
This time you really went, too far
No no,youre not a superstar

na na na na,na na na na na,na na,na na
Youre not a superstar

na na na na,na na na na na,na na,na na
Youre not a superstar
