Help me to find an equivalent term or expression in English which sounds as strange to Koreans as having a "small face" does to us.

I used to get that all the time.........you have....small face.

I guess you could say 'Wow, what strong hair you have'

or.....'What flexible ears you have'.

Having a small face is considered very good here. Once a young woman held up her hand so that it covered my face, and said, "Oohh, Troll_Bait has such a small face," in a tone that overflowed with admiration. I've actually heard that comment quite a few times, and it feels weird that I'm attracting young women with my "small face." Confused

I guess it's attractive here because, to be bluntly honest, some Koreans have huge bucket-heads. (I'm not trying to be mean. Just calling it as I see it. I mean, just look at the two guys in the last picture above.)

Which is worse? A big nose or a pumpkin head/face? I vote for the huge face. It's worse. Unless we are talking about an extremely huge honker, like the one I heard about from my parents. They saw a Turkish man on TV whose nose was so big, he couldn't drink out of a regular glass or mug. He had to have his own special glass/mug. So, in his case, I'd choose the big face as being best. Poor guy. And Koreans say us whiteys have a big nose. Also, had you rather be fat with a small nose, or thin with a big nose. Again, I'd take the big nose.

Yeah, the "small face" comment mystifies me too.

My ex used to position her head behind me in photos so her face looked smaller.

Never heard of it elsewhere in Asia either - seems to be just Korea where "big face" is an insult.

A small face is also considered good in Japan.

I worked at a school once that had activity time. One term the guys divided themselves into soccer and jo-koo teams based on head size. The Big Heads won more often, to the consternation of the Little Heads.

Yeah, I've gotten the "thin face" thing many times. And yes, it definitely stems from the fact that, in general, Koreans have larger heads (maybe wider would be a better term). They seem to really dislike it, although I see wide faced girls here that are quite cute.

I'd have to disagree about them not liking big noses, though. They'll point it out, which we in the West generally see as a negative thing, but I've had tons of Koreans tell me they wish they had my nose (and I'm half-Italian, so I've got quite a decent sized schnoz). I think Koreans just generally want physical attributes they don't usually have.

Well, since it seems they don't count the forehead as being part of the face, I can consider myself very beautiful indeed.

(If they do count it after all, I'm totally effed.)

There's your answer: bucket-head. "Wow, what an amzing bucket head you have!

How about students who sit there and measure your head with their fingers whilst sitting (as in hold two fingeres up to their eyes and use them to measure your face, then move down your body seeing how many times that length goes into your full height). One 13 year old girl explained this could measure whether I should be a model.

Last weekend, a girl actually walked around behind me to see the size of the back of my head, and then came back around to face me and compliment me on it. All good I guess.

Yeah, I was really confused when I came here and Koreans were constantly cooing over how small my face is. I got it from middle school girls most often. I always hated having a small head/face, actually.
