I've been looking at the stickies and they are a total waste of space. Most of them are from 2005 but some go as far back as 2003. Some of them the OP was called rapier and he's replaced all his posts with "..." and the thread has no relationship to the subject. I think it's time to totally clear them out and start again from scratch. There only needs to be one or two well written stickies. There are way too many on the Korean forums and they're useless. WTF is this one all about:

That thread, and a few others with the stupid names, used to be very informative posts about birds, mammals and other wildlife on the Korean peninsula. Each time I've asked about those threads I've gotten no response. I agree, clear them out, and get rid of any outdated information. |

I agree.
Some of the advice in those stickies that newbies coming over might read is seriously inaccurate.
So any of you readers who are planning your trip to Korea, don't take info in the stickies that is more than a year or two old too seriously.
I can't help but wonder why this board keeps any post more than a year or two old around? Frankly, I would purge the posts after a month.
The problem with deleting the old stickies posts and making new ones is that there's a pretty good chance you would just wind up with more current bad advice.
There are some really knowledgeable, experienced expats in Korea. There's even some on this board. But there's also a lot of egomaniacs who think they know everything, and everyone else is wrong, who love go give advice. Sometimes they are right, but sometimes they aren't. And a newbie is not going to be able to tell which.
The biggest problem is that a lot of the advice is only valid for people in or near Seoul. Outside of Seoul, things are different, very different.
I'll bet there are plenty of people who have read advice on Dave's before coming over, and when they got here said to themselves WTF???
The only way to get quality stickies is to have them reviewed by moderators who know what they are doing, not just make some long thread into a sticky for the heck of it.
Bottom line: Dave's ESL is for entertainment purposes only. Any other uses are at the reader's own risk. |

Interesting suggestion.
Funny, how I don't even notice the stickies, tuned them out ages ago. |
