|
|
Can someone tell me what expat mags there are in Seoul and where/when they can be found?
I was just visiting a friend in Beijing. He said, "what do you want to do?" I hadn't really thought about it much so he handed me different mags and said, "pretty much everthing there is to do right now is in those..."
Tokyo, Osaka, Beijing, Shanghai, and even smaller cities like Nanjing all have English mags that inform you about events/restaurants/life. Why can't I find these in Seoul? |

There have been so many, they come and go. Not sure if there are any besides Soul Selection right now, though. |

I buy this . I pick it up in Kyobo book store in Gagnam.

The thing about Seoul Selection is that I don't think it's at all for foreigners that are actually living in Korea. It, to me, is much like Arirang. A glossed over version of Korea for people who don't live in Korea. I know that there have been many in the past but it seems that most have focused too much on the cultural side and not enough on the "real normal life" side of things. Does that make sense? The author of Korean Bug seems to think it's because the expats in Seoul just really don't care enough about life in general to be bothered.....(may be my interpretation).
Anyways, apart from Seoul (selection) are there any others kicking around right now? |

hmm....
so we have..."goob" "Seoul" "rokonmagazine"
And is "seoulscene" still going?
I'm always paying attention for these types of mags when I'm out and about and never notice them anywhere. What are the chances of me finding any of them at either kyobo or what the book tomorrow? |

aha...I remember another one I picked up one time called, "groove"
it was......well....
rokon seems to be fairly decent.
Tomorrow I'm going to go hunting to see how many I can find. Which location should I choose? Hongdae/Shinchon, Coex/Kangnam, Gwanhamun/Jongro |

Seoul seriously needs something along the lines of Metropolis/Tokyo Classified that can be picked up in Japan. |

I'd guess that the dearth of such publications related to the general tendency of expats in Korea to stay a year or two. The longtimers here are fewer and farther between than in Japan, for example. |

That's the cop-out answer. |

Shetan,
the first one is for Koreans who are learning English and the second one is nothing more than toilet roll. Please try again. |
