This is specifically a job-related question about who pays what so I think this is the appropriate forum. Last time I was in Korea the employer paid everything for the visa run to Japan i.e. airfare, hotel, train, visa application fee. I've been offered a nice job but the employer says they'll only pay the airfare. What's the norm nowadays in Seoul? Does the employer pay all reasonable expenses or just the airfare?

Who pays depends on what you negotiate. You should pay for extra expenses, but they should cover the airfare, hotel, and minimal food.

If you accept an offer of just the airfare, then that is what you get.

You should negotiate ALL reasonable expenses: air, hotel, train, visa costs, etc.

The exception is usually a public school position. Their policy is airfare only BUT that is also negotiable.

The norm I've experienced usually is that if you get your visa in your home country, everyone's happy, and sometimes they even reimburse you the fee you paid at the consulate. If you are already here when you meet your new boss, he oughta pay for the plane ride to Japan and back, and anything more is negotiable. If you don't ask, you don't get.
