Ok, I don't get it. I understand that there are prostitutes galore here in Korea. Why do Korean men assume that I (an American) am one as well? I dress quite conservatively, and act in the same manner. I have been asked in round about ways if I was a Russian prostitute several times. Sunday night though, was the worst. A friend and I were walking down the street, windowshopping, when 2 Korean men started following us and offering us money. I told her to just ignore them, and they finally started yelling "Fine!" and got angry. Here's the kicker though, they were only offering 20,000 won. Oh yeah, I'm going to jump at that offer!
Honestly, I don't hate Korea. I've been here for 3 years, and enjoy it. Sure, it has it's downfalls, but no place is perfect. I just have never encountered behavior like this before. What in the world are they thinking??? |

That sucks ass. I've been here for 3 years and this year has been the worst. I don't know if the "climate" has changed or what, but I have felt more like an outsider due to the actions of Koreans...
Sorry that happened to you. Don't worry about it and enjoy your time here |

It does happen. It happened to me last year as well.
If you run into one that persists again, simply snap a quick photo with your cell phone and start yelling "BYEONTAE SEKKI" really loudly. (sorry for the romanization - no Hangul on my comptuer).
That should do the trick to make them take off. |

Err... you could also cry out loud, '치한이야!' (which means 'a sex offender here!')
It's a shame such low human beings walk among us. |

Nice one! Would "Byeontae nom" also work? |

I don't know exactly. I can't pinpoint any one particular thing to be honest. I think it just occurred to me that after 3 years in the same town and 2 in the same neighborhood that I still feel like a freakshow. Ive been harassed in the street a number of times this year too, so I feel even less inclined to deal with people or their bullshit anymore. 1 more semester and then I'm out of here...I am annoyed that I'm letting stupid people who don't matter get to me but I figure go before I get bitter.... |
