Sooooo...new ipods are supposed to be announced on the 5th; mine got stolen in Thailand, so this, I guess, is fairly decent timing. Anyway. what's the deal with customs? Anyone ever have a luxury item shipped from home? My worry is that Korean customs probably takes more interest in electronics because of the protectionism and whatnot.

EDIT: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/breaking/apple-special-event-goes-down-september-5-294415.php

Apple announcement day definitely on the 5th.

My first question would be is it actually cheaper to buy it at home compared to Korea ...? I don't know with ipods ...

But so far as the customs go ... I would expect them to deal with it just like anything else ... It may or may not be identified at customs ... And if it is over the value limit then you may have to pay duty on it ... I would suggest including the possible duty in your calcuation of whether it is cheaper to buy there or here ...

Ok, when something is charged duty, how do they let you know? Do they keep it and contact you?

Also, I don't care about the price...it's a new ipod, touchscreen probably, and I friggin want it!

My clueless best friend and personal agent back home sent me an iPod and declared the true price on the customs form (in a box of other stuff)...it was untouched and no fee was charged (should have been for the amount she wrote.)

It's a gamble, you may get charged and you may not...
