I thought that I'd reverse the roles a bit from the "You know that you're Korean when" thread.

1. You spell 'Delicious" more times in a week than you've ever said it in your life.
2. Everyone you know is a teacher reguardless of nationality. Christ, everyone I know here is a treacher. I just know that from now on one of my opening lines is going to be. "So, Where do you teach?"
3. You take a folder to the bank.
4. You have a loan of at least one book from another teacher.
5. You find yourself looking up Korean songs that you've heard on the radio, without actually knowing what the songs are called or who sings them.
6. You wonder why Kimbop isn't readily available in the rest of the world. (I'm honestly going to miss that food)
7. You been on a vacation to Bali.

Your first 2 are pretty good, but the other 5 don't make sense.

You use exaggerated hand motions to explain anything, even when not talking to students.

You've received socks from a student's mother and think nothing of it.

You know the Korean words for "adjective," "adverb," "eraser," and "be quiet," but still have trouble explaining what you want in a bank.

I don't think this is a 'teacher thing' as much as a living in a Korea thing:

You think every piece of meat should be cut up and picked at by dinner guests.

Seriously, I love g/kalbi. I had a hard time back in Canada not grabbing the scissors and cutting up that pork chop and sharing with friends over shots of booze. Sure, it's just BBQ, but the ambience! Dismiss and complain at will, but nothing beats a g/kalbi dinner. If that's all Korea has to offer the world (and it's not), then they deserve superpower status.

Yes, but older Italians do that-and I am guessing you've never been to Montreal?

Canada - that explains it all - you guys wouldn't know what a real barbecue is in that tundra of yours if the gods gave you decent weather for just one day I guess.

Canada.

Canada.

Aside:

I never have done this. And you should stop. get the students to spell the word! Sound it out, slowly if have to. "Guess!" (Vowels are the hardest so wiggle fingers to indicate when it's an "AEIO or U" touching each finger to represent each letter: thumb a, forefinger e... before long their ability to connect sound with letters, their spelling and listening skills, will improve greatly.)

Teachers should not spell words in class. It is a waste of time and of very limited educational value.

(Not just English teachers) You find yourself carrying around a red pen and correcting people's grammar/spelling in shop windows.

You're surprised when you talk to another foriegner and realize that they aren't teachers.
