I'm partial to:
Will the Circle Be Unbroken
Rock of Ages
Amazing Grace
The Old Rugged Cross
Onward Christian Soldiers
Battle Hymn of the Republic
Good Protestant hymns, all
Then the Christmas carols:
Oh, Come All Ye Faithful
Little Drummer Boy |

I only like this one on Bagpipes! It's one reason I'm studying that instrument now--I want to peform it during Sacrament service one time.

Ahem, I think some of the responses are violating the rules set down in the original post.

I didn't say The Valkyrie is Christian music. Its music has themes inspired
by the the religion and culture of the native indigenous people of Europe who practiced proto-Christian pagan religions ie in places like Athens, Rome and Scandinavia or even the Druids in what is now called "Britian".
Some of this stuff is pretty interesting...
| Quote: |
| Valhalla, Hall of the Slain, in Norse mythology is the hall presided over by Odin. This vast hall has five hundred and forty doors. The rafters are spears, the hall is roofed with shields and breast-plates litter the benches. A wolf guards the western door and an eagle hovers over it. It is here that the Valkyries, Odin's messengers and spirits of war, bring half of the heroes that died on the battle fields (the rest go to Freya's hall Folkvang). These heroes, the Einherjar, are prepared in Valhalla for the oncoming battle of Ragnarok. When the battle commences, eight hundred warriors will march shoulder to shoulder out of each door. |

a lower profile! until now of course! where are you now Balony?
Bolivia? |
I'm not in Bolivia or even Saxony. I'm here in Korea, a country much like Bolivia. Both counties have tall mountains.
bejarano-korea, did you hear about Israel turning away refugees from the holocaust in Sudan? That seems odd since both people have so much in common. I'm sure the government of Israel has a good explanation for their actions and I'm sure its just a minor administrative setback for those fleeing persecution. |

| I heard some of the Old Hall Manuscript in a university humanities class. The visiting expert told us that the music was nuns singing a 'lullaby to the infant Jesus'. Even though we couldn't understand the words, half the class was in tears, it was so moving. |

Man, I'm not religious at all, but I listen to SO MUCH religious music...
Joseph Spence (with or without the Pinder Family) - Bahamian singer-songwriter-guitarist extraordinaire. One of a kind. His arrangements of gospel tunes kill me.
Soul Stirrers (esp. before Sam Cooke went pop)
Korean shaman music...especially Jindo stuff, Kim Dae Rye, etc.
Vernard Johnson...almost makes me love Jesus.
The Louvin Brothers!!! Hillbilly gospel close-harmony...SATAN IS REAL
I really can't get enough gospel these days, mostly on compilations. |

Sure you're not confusing Louis Armstrong with Sam Cooke? |

Here are a couple different versions of "Govindam Adi Purusam" produced by George Harrison and played daily in Hare Krishna temples to "greet the Deities"...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPP1-3z79W8
http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?ei=UTF-8&b=4&vid=807567&gid=918745
This one is the same song to a different tune:

Govindam Adi Purusam
isvarah paramah krsnah
sac-cid-ananda-vigrahah
anadir adir govindah
sarva-karana-karanam
Krsna, who is known as Govinda, is the supreme controller. He has an eternal, blissful, spiritual body. He is the origin of all. He has no other origin, for He is the prime cause of all causes.
cintamani-prakara-sadmasu kalpa-vrksa-
laksavrtesu surabhir abhipalayantam
laksmi-sahasra-sata-sambhrama-sevyamanam
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami
I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, the first progenitor, who is tending cows yielding all desires in abodes built with spiritual gems and surrounded by millions of purpose trees. He is always served with great reverence and affection by hundreds and thousands of goddesses of fortune, or gopis.
venum kvanantam aravinda-dalayataksam-
barhavatamsam asitambuda-sundarangam
kandarpa-koti-kamaniya-visesa-sobham
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami
I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is adept at playing on His flute, whose eyes are blooming like lotus petals, whose head is bedecked with peacock feathers, whose beauty is tinged with the hue of blue clouds, and whose unique loveliness charms millions of Cupids.
alola-candraka-lasad-vanamalya-vamsi-
ratnangadam pranaya-keli-kala-vilasam
syamam tri-bhanga-lalitam niyata-prakasam
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami
I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, round whose neck is swinging a garland of flowers beautified with the moon-locket, whose two hands are adorned with the flute and jeweled ornaments, who always revels in pastimes of love, and whose graceful threefold-bending form of Syamasundara is eternally manifest.
angani yasya sakalendriya-vrtti-manti
pasyanti panti kalayanti ciram jaganti
ananda-cinmaya-sad-ujjvala-vigrahasya
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami
I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, whose transcendental form is full of bliss, truth, and substantiality and is thus full of the most dazzling splendor. Each of the limbs of that transcendental figure possesses in itself the full-fledged functions of all the organs, and He eternally sees, maintains, and manifests the infinite universes, both spiritual and mundane.
advaitam acyutam anadim ananta-rupam
adyam purana-purusam nava-yauvanam ca
vedesu durlabham adurlabham atma-bhaktau
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami
I worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Govinda [Krsna], who is the original personabsolute, infallible, without beginning, although expanded into unlimited forms, still the same original, the oldest, and the person always appearing as a fresh youth. Such eternal, blissful, all-knowing forms of the Lord cannot be understood even by the best Vedic scholars, but they are always manifest to pure, unalloyed devotees. |
