10 minutes is so long! growing up, my high school gave us 4-5 minutes to change classes, and the students actually had to move.

And despite the long break, few students manage to be in class on time.

I expect that you will find it is just tradition ... the way it is done ...

Personally I like the 10 minute break between lessons ... especially on days when I have up to 4 consecutive lessons ... It is long enough to get back to the teachers office ... Get a drink (if needed) ... Relax for a minute or two ... get organised for the next lesson ... Without feeling rushed ... It also gives the students a break ... and means that you don't get any can I go to the bathroom ... or can I get a drink ... or things like that ... at all ....

I'm guessing the 10-minute break was conceived by teachers who smoke.

I think it's a pretty good idea, the kids aren't allowed to eat in school. This gives them some time to go to the school store, barely enough time to eat it. They come to class with stuffed cheeks. It's good for getting class materials from their homeroom, or talking to the teacher after class. Last, but not least.. the bathroom. As a girl, I have to say, 5 minutes just doesn't cut it!!

In the current weather ... and how hot the classroom can get ... I was actually thinking mainly about water ... (I am not quite that stressed... Very Happy )

Especialy if it just happens to be one of the periods when the aircon is turned off in that particular classroom .... which is what my schol has been doing the last couple of days .... Today I didn't actually manage to teach one lesson in a classroom that was airconditioned in the time I was teaching the lesson ... Though they had been the period before ... What it proved to me is just how quickly the room can heat back up again ...

Confused

You don't want a break? Are you sick in the head?

Whenever I went to school there was always a ten-minute break. On what planet did you go to school?

Breaks are a nuisance. Of course, if you have big classes, you need them to get the kids in and out.

But, with super small classes, I prefer no breaks. Kids in, teach, kids out, kids in, teach ... no breaks. It's a better use of my time. I can teach more in a shorter amount of time. Make more money, get more done, never have time to let down or get tired.

Come in, work, dinner break, work, go home.

I'd rather cut down on my breaks and finish earlier.

If you teach 5 or 6 classes a day, that's 30 minutes saved.

Yes, kids are kids. They will wait until they hear the bell and then go to the bathroom. The dumb ones will come into the classroom and then ask. I say no.

How much more money are you going to make not taking 10-minute breaks? Jesus H. That'd drive me nuts. That dinner break would p1ss me off more than anything. Too long.

are you demented? you dont think it is possible for a little girl to feel the need to go to the bathroom 8 minutes into break? do you beat them if they are late from the bathroom too? i am happy you werent my teacher.

you dont mess with someone needing the bathroom, that is just plain wrong.
