I am an apple supporter and thus I have some bias. The best things about macbooks are: Aesthetics (they look great, lightweight), Good componentry (high end intel core 2 duo processors), great battery life, nice keyboards (but crappy mouses), great screens, The best os (imho, leopard is awesome but won't be availible to the mainstream until october, wait for it its great!), the ability to dual boot. Cost varies, in Canada one can purchase a macbook basic model for about $1200 but there is a significant discount for students and teachers (nearly 10% I believe). The negatives are: price (usually more than pc's), some people dont like the os (but boot camp allows windows to be run natively anyways) and warranty (only 90 days phone/one year hardware for all products without applecare). |

As Mac convert, I can tell you my reasons why I prefer Macs. First of all, the opersting system is much more user friendly, efficient and attractive . I mean, the system is designed to keep you from making mistakes, and the user interface is cool.
The operating system comes with wicked applications like Garageband (to compose music without knowledge of music), iMovie, iPhoto, and of course iTunes.
Also, the security and firewall protection in a Mac is great. If you keep up with all the free software updates, you'll never catch a virus.
Macs can also run Winblows, so you can get your hands on all the software you'll need. Don't forget a virus protection program for Winblows, though.
Also, Applecare is great. Buy it. A friend just had three things go wrong on his 2year old MacBook Pro (including a screen he cracked himself), and they are replacing it with a brand new, fully loaded model.
If you buy one in Korea, get the phone number from the apple website. Call them and order by phone. They will deliver free and give you a 4% discount. |

I personally am not a great fan of Macs. I know all the fanboys will get their undies in a twist but it's overpriced and overhyped.
If you are really into trying out the Mac OS-X get yourself a new laptop and install the hacked version of OSX-86 - see what you think. It's pretty fast but it didn't do anything for me.
I am happy running SuSE 10.2. I may not get all the user friendlieness of the Mac or the simplicity of Windows but the learing curve is enjoyable.
A while back I ran a triple boot - Win, OSX-86, SuSE and I kept going back to SuSE over the others.
I believe there is now a wireless networking work around on OSX-86 as well so that you can get reliable wifi service from most WiFi interfaces.
Don't fall for the hype. Buy something sexy like an X61-T and enjoy yourself. |

I'm not one to fall for any hype.
In fact I was very ANTI Apple, especially because of their hype. It wasn't until I used a friend's computer for a while, that i realized the difference.
I have to say I am enjoying my Mac, and still keeping my undies quite straight as well. |

Apple gives you good hardware for your money but more than that, it's the OS. OSX is a very solid system and, as already mentioned, it is very easy to use. I bought my Macbook back in Jan. while home in the States and it's been fine. I haven't needed to use any support services here so unfortunately I can't help you on that one. There are a handful of Apple stores here, which you can find by visiting apple's website. You can walk in the store or have a K-friend order it for you online.

I like how the power cord is attached magnetically, so if you trip over it it just pops off--no damage done. |

Which crowd? There are many crowds. Do you mean those who use or don't use Apple computers? |

Yeah, that is an awesome feature. It's saved my a$$ on numerous occasions. It does tend to pop out when you don't want it to, if your changing locations and it gets snagged slightly on a couch corner or something, but it's a small price to pay. Apple has a knack for doing something that's so common sense you have to wonder how we lived without it until now.

I love my MacBookPro.
Best of both worlds. And with Cidar on the way, there will be no need for Windows. |
