on another topic, we will be bringing a 1 year old US baby to S.K., and were wondering how they adjust to viruses??

i mean, you are introducing them to a whole new world of different viruses than the US. i remember the first year i lived abroad with the Peace Corps in Paraguay, i was extremely sick. then, the next 6 years, i was never sick again.

any newborn / children parents out there??

Do not feed your baby kimchi. They will die of cancer and other diseases. Koreans will tell you it's good for health, but just look at how many people here have stomach and Colan cancer.

Viruses aside, I'd be more concerned with your child developing asthsma.

Our daughter is nearly completely innoculated. Poor thing was a pin cushion for the first year and 4 months. As long as your baby has had the normal virus/disease shots (measels, chicken pox, influenza, polio, hep a and b etc.) he/she should be fine. Special shots done here were for Japanese encephilitis and TB.

As for eating, don't listen to people who say don't feed your baby Korean food like kimchi. Our little one doesn't eat Korean food that often, but she likes rice, kimchi and other other kinds of strange things she can shove in her mouth. She also likes raw garlic and onions.

It will take up to one year, and you will be cursing yourself all the time.

Huge quantities of snot will be produced over the course of one year, there won't be a day he doesn't have a cough or a sneeze.

Especially if he comes into contact with kids a lot, but that might not be in your case.

You should wash your hands the moment you get home BEFORE you touch your son. As a teacher, kids are inevitable, and so are their germs.

Washing will be paramount in keeping your kid germ free as much as possible.

And remember Korea isn't a South American nation with an exotic flora in its water supply. No one gets La Turista here. I would think you were getting sick a lot in Pauraguay because your GI system was getting used to the bacteria in the water.

yes, i thought about the colds also. even for myself. strangely, he is a nursed baby for the first year and hasn't been sick once. not one ear infection, cold, anything. shows the wonders of the miracle milk.

but, the asthma is a legitimate point. id like to see what the PPM of Sulfur is in / around Seoul and some of the other cities.
