Ive seen that same sort of situation quite often. The kids usually behave though. I have no idea what would happen if a kid got hurt and I hope to never find out... |

Once my director pulled me out of my class of barely older than kindy kids to ask me a question about my schedule I had written for the following month. She easily could have done this during one of the breaks.
I play "Freeze!" with my little kids, because they think it's funny and it's a good way to get control over the class if they're getting rowdy. Anytime I say "freeze" they have to completely stop moving, no matter what position they are in. So as I was leaving the classroom, I looked at them very seriously and said, "Freeze."
When I got back to the class about 10 minutes later, they were still completely motionless with terrified looks on their faces like they thought I had abandoned them in the freeze position forever. They take that game very seriously. |

Andrew, there is a certain FT you and I both know in our province who, despite liking to appear not to be the sort to do this kind of thing, has simply walked out of a few middle school classes when there was no coteacher present....
I recommend you force them to stick to the policy stated by the district office: A coteacher must be present at all times. Otherwise, just leave.
BTW, I have one class in which the teacher leaves... but its not too bad since there are only 6 kids and I can control them. But if I were ever placed in a situation that was any worse than this, I wouldnt put up with it.... why not get those lazy bastards to do thier jobs the way they're supposed to instead of sitting in the breakroom drinking green tea? |

I hear ya...They have schoolwide meetings where all the teachers have to go and it's during the regular class period. So all the students are unsupervised at THE SAME TIME.
I love Korea.... |

The kids at my school crawl up the walls all the time. Literally crawl UP the walls.
Today some of us in a certain city in GEPIK had a lovely little meeting where we were told a few things.
1) It's illegal to teach without a certified Korean teacher in the room because we're not public servants.
2) This doesn't apply for summer school or after school classes. (I guess we morph into Koreans for those classes.)
3) We're not responsible if a kid is injured.
We were also told that foreigners are often perceived as arrogant. I came home and said to my boyfriend, "Koreans are arrogant, too!" I held up five fingers. "Five Westerners are arrogant as individuals!" I closed a fist. "Five Koreans are arrogant as a group!"
He agreed and then said GEPIK should hire him because he actually speaks enough English and has dated enough foreigners to understand them.
I digress... |
