Is there any truth to the belief that people here in Korea are of one race?
My KT believes this to be true. I disagreed with her assessment.

What are your thoughts on the following passage taken from the global voices online webite?

Koreas minjok is a fantasy. There is actually no such thing as a Korean race.

Korea is a multi ethnic society. Koreans actually originated from different racial stocks, the Koguryo in the North, and the Sam Hans from the South and many others.

There is no racial relationship between the 2 primary racial stocks, the Koguryo northern stock and the Sam Han from the South. In my opinion, the Koguryo tribe is more closely related to the Northern Chinese tribes than they are to Sam Han.

So it is a myth that Koreans are of one race. It is actually made up of many different races than later were united to be called Koreans.

In accordance with this United Nations call, I call on Korea to stop using the word Koreans to refer to their race, but to revert back to the original naming convention used by their forefathers. A nationwide study must be made for every Korean to trace their roots back to which tribe they belonged to. Then the racial designation of their race should read Koguryo, Sam Han, or Silla, or Balhae etc. etc..

Koreans must realize that they are from different races, some are Koguryo, some are Sam Han and embrace this multi ethnicity.

Ethnic group and race are not the same thing. Yes, all Koreans are the same race, but "Korean" is not a race.

Koreans are basically a pure race, yes. It's pretty obvious (unless you graduated from a liberal college in Canada).

If you look at Koreans, some resemble South East Asians and some resemble Mongolians in appearance so obviously Koreans came from a mixture. Also, there were several separte kingdoms in Korea. Also, a Korean prince married a woman from India and had children.

Yes it's true some Koreans believe they are of one race. Is it a truth. Nah, that stuffs all BS anyways. How many different nations have swept through this peninsula in the last 5-6,000 years?

So because you and your brother / sister don't look exactly the same, it means that you have different parents?! You're not very sharp, are you?

I think you aren't being very sharp.

Name a race where everyone looks EXACTLY the same....

Never mind that the idea of race is madness since everyone (Excluding some remote tribes, I suppose) is a mutt...

That's precisely my point, you dummy. That Koreans resemble (in your eyes) Mongolians or Japanese doesn't mean Koreans are not a race.

Biologically race does not exist. It's a scientific fact. Educate your Korean teacher (KT).

You, ingrate. That proves that Koreans are from a "mixed stock." The implication being that they are not a "pure" race.

This is what you wrote, alyallen. If race is a mad concept, how come you state that you're Black? You also posted your opinions in the thread entitled'Interracial marriages in Korea". Since race, in your opinion, is an illusion, how can you even post in such a thread? You're confused, that's all I know.

Jajdude, if you feel Ethiopian, then by any means please go back there. You probably have a similar IQ as the people there anyway.

You aren't being serious, now are you? If one Korean is very brown and looks like he is from Cambodia and another looks like he could be from Mongolia it would be clear that several Asian groups mixed to form modern Koreans. When people think of race, they think of Caucasian, Asian, African etc.... You can argue this in many ways and say the Chinese and Koreans are one race or say the French and German are from different races. Whatever, man.

Hahaha...Me confuesd? Actually no. It is a mad concept but hey it's either I say I'm Black, I'm a descendent of Africans or I explain "well...I'm Black, Scottish, Irish, and with a possible dash of Chinese"...the last explanation is my reason why I think the concept is ridiculous. I look Black but I am more than that. Some people look White but are much more than that. We are the sum of thousands of year od genetic mixing, so while easy labels such as "Black" "White" and "Asian" have their place, I would find it foolish to push the labeling further to a "Korean" race or "Cambodian" race or a "Russian" race.

I know I used a lot of words and it might make your brain hurt a bit but I think I explained myself well enough. If you can't wrap your brain around what I said, then it sucks to be you!
