The story below made me think about the games I played as a kid. I'm guessing that most of them have all but disappeared from the playground landscape.

Smear the queer
British Bulldog
Red Rover
Dodgeball
Box Hockey (got my thumb smashed open playing that one)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - An elementary school has banned tag on its playground after some children complained they were harassed or chased against their will.

"It causes a lot of conflict on the playground," said Cindy Fesgen, assistant principal of the Discovery Canyon Campus school.

Running games are still allowed as long as students don't chase each other, she said.

Fesgen said two parents complained to her about the ban but most parents and children didn't object.

In 2005, two elementary schools in the nearby Falcon School District did away with tag and similar games in favor of alternatives with less physical contact. School officials said the move encouraged more students to play games and helped reduce playground squabbles.

When I was in high school we made an updated version of British bulldog. It was called Alaskan sled dog and it was played with crazy carpets on a steep hill and one person at the bottom trying to stop the others from getting down.

Awesome too. That's basically where the early video games came from in some instances. Elementary school kids goofing around.

Used to play British bulldog until a classmate broken his arm and the teachers banned it. Damn you D. McGillen! You were weak! WEAK!

Crazy carpets and British bulldog. Good times.

Tag was a favorite. But I hear its outlawed in schools these days. Too Competitive. Rolling Eyes ????
Hide and go seek. But I think that was discouraged after kids started hiding in old refridgerators.
Tug of War. I hear that it was either outlawed or changed to Tug of Peace. Rolling Eyes
Stick sword fighting was always fun. Toughened the skin.
Don't touch the ground, by jumping on the furniture. That was a fun way to piss mother off.
Dodge Ball. I hear that was outlawed too.
