Maybe you are the one that's brainwashed and you don't know it or you do, but you prefer the lie.

My four kids were all taught my religious beliefs by both me an their mother. It took on two sort of on one and not on the other. They were involved in activities on a regular basis. Bothe through our church and through our family itself.

Were our programs anyhting like Jesus Camp that the Evangelicals run? Not much.

Just what is wrong with parents who believe teaching our kids as effectively as possible to follow that belief.

I've only seen a bit of the movie, but that movie does not represent all christians. The movie seems aimed at making Christiany seem like a cult.
And I admit, whoever those guys in the movie are, they do seem like a cult, but that's not everybody. It's probably a fringe group.

My dad is a priest but I've never pledged allegiance to the Christian flag or prayed that I would knock down all the pins at the bowling alley.
As far as saying we should use up all the oil because the world's going to end anyway, I have no idea what the heck that's all about. Politics in church? I've never experienced that. Bringing a cut out of Bush into church??? Talking about supreme court fights in church?!!! What the heck?

Al Queda is a muslim fringe group, these guys are a christian fringe group too.

Since birth I was brought up as a christian. In my early 20's I began to seriously question everything. Almost became an agnostic, but then decided that God does exist.

I can't relate to these guys at all.

Actually that movie equates christianity to me.

I grew up with Christians being exactly like that. If they didn't act like that, they weren't Christian.

When I visit my immediate and extended family (on my mother's side), and sadly I seriously try not to, I get inundated with exactly the same kind of ramblings as the Jesus Camp movie.

For me, I'm actually relieved that people like yourself and Harpeau (who I thought of as Christian) see Christianity as something differently. I certainly never have.

I honestly thought it was terrifying. It scares me to think of how quickly that demographic is growing and it makes me very nervous for the future.

I think the reason the movie got to me so much was because I really hate the idea of preaching religion to children. I can't complain much if an adult makes the decision to follow a certain belief, but it really bothers me when children are scared and brainwashed into believing in a religion.

terrified indeed. Such absolute statements being made though. I'd hope you didn't mean to wag that finger at everybody who's had a religious life of one sort or another. I hate fanatics too but it doesn't follow that the things they abuse are broken to begin with.

edit: Holy crap I'm a left-of-center political and religious moderate! What the hell am I doing here?!

If you liked Jesus Camp you should see Hell House. Hell House is about these "Hell Houses" that Christian churches make at Halloween time. They are supposed to rival traditional haunted houses. But instead of seeing witches, monsters and vampires, there are scenes that are acted out by child actors. The scenes include: bloody botched abortions, drunken date rapes, A Rave ( are there still raves?) where kids take "the ecstasy"
All things that good christian kids should avoid. These Hell Houses are quite popular, with hundreds of paying customers yearly. At the end of walking through the maze like hell house, the participants are given the chance to be saved. Good stuff.

Dude, you're the one who believes a guy is using simple stage magic tricks to make it seem like jesus is making gem dust appear ex nihilo. You're the one who believes demons, and not mental illness, are behind gruesome human action. You're the one who is running around Africa thinking witches are behind every tree trying to subvert your attempts at colonizing Africans with your fairy tale religion. You're the one who believes if you show up at a Benny Hinn crusade and hand over your savings god will make that glass eye pop out and you'll regrow your old eye. You're the one who believes all of peer reviewed science is a lie and the world is 6,000 years old and the universe is only about 12,000 light years across.

I think it's clear who is brainwashed. You, binky.
