Well, I don't think you should snap at other people when you yourself don't even know where you're being placed.
For the record, and I'm sure this will further confuse the easily confused, there is a Shinheung-dong (신흥동) in Sujeong-gu, Seongnam city, Gyeonggi-do. The first mention of Shinheung was probably a typo, but for those who are curious, there is a Shinheung. There's a Shinheung station on the pink subway line. |

I'm not really snapping at anyone in particular. Just was frustrated that there are 2 commonly spelled places people consider the same place. I've heard about the Sinheung from some people I've asked. Maybe it was a typo, but that there are 2 similiarly spelled places that they call the same city sometimes, and people confuse it.
Sorry I seemed upset, but it wasn't at the people here. Just the fact they are confused for the same place. And when I look it up it's in different places on the map. Either closer to Seoul, or way out in the corner by the sea. So I was just wondering which is right. |

I live in Siheung Daeyadong. If anyone in the area is up for doing something PM me.
Sinheung is on the East/South side of Seoul and is further out. I've never been though. |
Well, someone else has heard of SiNheung. I did find some maps where SiNheung (way out in the corner by the sea and about an hour from Seoul) is written as Siheung(purple Seoul subway line, 30 min from Seoul). And that really threw me off on which map is correct. Well, now I know.
Thanks for your answers, and again I apoligize that I snapped. I was just frustrated wondering where it really is, not mad at the people replying with answers. I was just really mad thinking I was going to the one far from I wanted to be. But I should've been thinking and rereading before posting. Is it written different in Korean? |

At first the school told me Siheung, and now Shiheung. Then, I google both, and find this website http://wiki.galbijim.com/Shiheung . I guess people spell it in several different ways. So, is there another Siheung that's part of Seoul?
And this is Siheung/Shiheung that's closer to Bucheon? Or maybe I'm just being thrown off by the Seoul subway map, because Bucheon is 10 stops away north from the only Siheung I see on there.
They told me that I'm 15 minute bus ride from Bucheon line 1. I guess that would mean, I am 15 minutes below Bucheon. Is the northern part of Siheung or Shiheung good? I don't know what to tell people about where I'll be living. I guess both Siheung/Shiheung. |

Because of the Korean alphabet Shiheung and Siheung are both acceptable english versions of where you probably are going to live. If you are 15 minutes from Bucheon Station you will probably live in Daeyadong. It's a quiet area, but i live there so if you ever want a drink let me know. |

Now, they called it Sheheung. Wow, how many different ways to spell this place? Am I freaking out too much? Hopefully it's not bad. It sounds like I have a good deal so far. And I get a 2 bedroom apt with 2 balconies all to myself. I'm really happy to hear about that. |

Are you sure that's not 2 badrooms with 2 balonies? |

Siheung is a large area! Beware!
if U live in somewhere like deya-dong, then your nearest subway is bucheon, a 25 minute bus ride away. The siheung subway is virtually an hour away by taxi.
When they say "siheung" it could mean just about anywhere in SW Seoul area. |

All this time, I thought Siheung meant that I will be where it says I am on the subway. My coteacher said no, we're on the other part of Siheung. I have to ride 015 bus to Bucheon, which is the closest subway station. They say it's about 15 minutes. Someone drove me to Siheung on the tollway, and it took 10 minutes with no traffic, but 15 with traffic. So, I'm guessing it will take even longer riding the bus. I feel like the only foreigner there. Siheung looks ok, but just the fact I'm not on the subway line is dissapointing. |

One little but nice advantage to living there is if you live near Siheung Subway Station, you can take the Gwangmyeong special subway to the KTX and other trains that go to all of Korea. So if you want to get away to Busan or other major cities south of you, you can with little difficulty. |

never again, 20 minute bus ride to a subway, 45-60 minutes to seoul on subway. Its more of an industrial type area. If I go back Im going to a big city, maybe. Im 6'4 300lbs talk about standing out in that place! |
