Trendy AND ugly!
You gotta give credit to the people at Crocs for managing to meld these two seemingly incompatible qualities into a single marketable item.
That being said...
Definitely Dorky.
Regarding the comment about the nurses - I heard a story over the summer that some nurses unions are banning Crocs, due to the fact that bio-waste can easily get in the holes, and that needles and other "sharps" can penetrate the rubber. |

I wear crocs and they're the most comfortable shoes I own. I first bought them because I'm an ultralight backpacker, and clipping them onto my backpack to wear around camp instead of my hiking shoes only adds 4 ounces to my total pack weight. After using them on several long hikes, though, I realized they are REALLY comfy. The real versions (Crocs and the knock-off, yet still nice, Wallabies) seem to be made from a different polymer than the harder plastic Korean version, and break in faster. Anyway, function before form on these babies.
Side note: In the outdoorsy parts of the U.S., (the Northwest, for example), Crocs are very trendy and worn by many people. |

| Horrible things... should be made illegal. As for them being trendy, maybe for housewives and George Bush. What's wrong with flip flops? A person wearing crocs is about 90% likely to be a fool or a d1ckhead. That's from experience. |

Yeah, they are ugly, so who cares how trendy they are! It's like this Korean girl I used to work with who said those humongous shirts that look like nightgowns are trendy. I told her, who cares how trendy they are if they are ugly? I swear, some people would wear a boot on top of their head if it was 'in style". I am stylish, but if something is "in" and ugly, no way am I wearing it. |

I remember noticing that all the nurses in a hospital in KC had the blocky ones with the strap on the back.

I call BS on this. I've worn my Crocs outside and ridden many escalators, yet never had any problems. So how is it that these "blocky" things nevertheless somehow get sucked into the tiny grooves?
All these people complaining about Crocs have obviously never owned a pair, like virgins complaining about sex.

They're the most comfortable shoes I've ever had, so I scoff at your sour grapes. |

I never go hiking without them. They're lightweight, durable, waterproof, perfect for crossing streams and excellent camp/shower shoes. They're also good for wearing around the house. They're so incredibly comfortable because most shoes aren't.
But wear them outside the trail or house? Never. |

I'd never wear them outside of the house (I agree with Ella's post above almost word for word). Just a little to dress-down-y for me.
My dad wears them cause he has heel spurs and says they're the only shoe he can wear comfortably. Woman at my uni wears them as working shoes... a big no-no IMO and I'm sure the uni would agree if management ever saw them. |

I saw them last summer in the states everyday while working at a shopping mall. Mostly women and children wore them, but a few men wore the black ones. They look OK to wear to a swimming hole, on a river float trip, or at a BBQ.
These shoes remind me of those Dutch wooden shoes worn centuries ago in Holland and made as tourist souvenirs today. |
like these? The Clogs...

When I was in the Netherlands in 1991 I saw farmers wearing wooden shoes in the mud to take care of the cows. |

I just did a google search and there seems to be lots of articles.
