There are a few days' holiday this month so I have a friend coming over from Japan. I just checked the Suwon tourist information guide and found this: http://eng.suwon.ne.kr/sub_frame.asp?page_id=sub_05_10&root_id=sub_main5&parent_id=sub_05_10

I thought perhaps they might mean 'beautiful rest-areas' or something. But no, it is Rest Rooms, and they are pretty descriptive and sincere:

"a facility to evacuate the bowels or to urinate, and hence, it has been called it a toilet, a lavatory or a latrine. In other words, a restroom is an important part of our environment facilities needed for living, as a place to meet the physiological needs of human beings.
In the past, a restroom was perceived only as a dirty and dark place. As people's living standards have improved and their cultural needs increased, the perception toward a restroom has changed from a place where people can solve their physiological needs to a space occupying a part of people's lives where they can engage in a variety of activities"......

Is this a genuine tourist suggestion?
When they say 'engage in a variety of activities' are they suggesting shooting up or getting busy?
Would you suggest I follow their scenic restrooms of Suwon trail? It would occupy most of a day, I think.
Anyone else found the rest-room route to be a winning tour?

http://eng.suwon.ne.kr/sub_frame.asp?page_id=sub_05_10_03&root_id=sub_main5&parent_id=sub_05_10

These are the ones at Jangan Park. We are both women so perhaps we can't enjoy those, but the ones at Meatan park claim that "Users can appreciate the flower fragrance" so perhaps they are worth a visit?
Any other far-out tours you could suggest?

The men's room in the bus terminal in Suanbo features pictures of Georgia O'Keefe paintings over the urinals. But if you want to engage in intellectual pursuits, the computerized toilets in the homes of some well-off Koreans will keep you occupied a while trying to figure how to utilize all those bells and whistles.

I saw that the other day as well. I think they're just trying to attract more Republican Senators to the ROK.

Koreans and bathrooms- always one extreme or the other. I remember being rather freaked out by one store that had clear glass doors on the stalls- they frosted when you closed the latch

I love it!

Look at the description here:

The cosy atmosphere of the inside of the restroom, filled by natural
sunlight, makes this restroom appreciate to be used as a space for reading or taking a rest

Yeaaahhh.. I wanna go to a public bathroom to take a rest and have a nice read. Gross.

That sucks. Who wants to get a hard-on while they're trying to take a leak?

That does look like a fine bathroom, yes.

Last night I couldn't sleep. I kept thinking about what other activities one could engage in besides the usual every-day 5:
(1. evacuate bowels 2. urinate 3.Shoot heroin 4. snort coke 5. have sex )
and I realised there are many things:

6: Hide from Gangsters
7: Dye your hair /disguise yourself
7: PLan a bank robbery
8: Have a baby
9: Take photos of other users with a hidden camera
10: read the paper
11: Go "cottaging"
12: Flash
13: Rest
14: Murder someone
15: Vandalise
16: read porn

There must be others? This is really becoming interesting...

Oh my goodness, number 17, of course, Manual stimulation!

18: vomit
19: pass out
20: cry about your boyfriend
21: Overhear a cime plot
22: slash your wrists
23: OD

and a re-enactment of the scene in the Godfather where they hide the gun in the toilet and Micheal goes and shoots the mobsters. Only I am not convinced that is something a casual toilet-tourist would actually do, so perhaps not.

That's an odd kink you have there.
