I once said...
"Me a rapist? I can't even get my 8 year old brother to do what I want." The context was that my asthma is so bad I couldn't force myself on anyone. The problem was some people thought I meant something else...and this was at WORK.

My co-worker and I had a simultaneous blackout last year.

We had to spell refrigerator. Both of us just say (and write) fridge, rather than the longer version of the word.

For some reason, it took us 5 minutes to figure out that refrigerator wasn't spelled with a d, like fridge is (refridgerator).

Generally, I'm pretty good at spelling, so this was a very frustrating moment for me. I hung my head in shame after that for a while, and made sure never to tell that story to my Grandmother, who is quite particular about grammar and spelling.

I was asked yesterday if Socrates &/or Plato lived between the Persian and Peloponnesian wars and I had no idea. Had to look it up. Turns out there was some overlap with both, and my student was pretty clever to draw a link between these wars and those thinkers' political theories.

I wasn't really embarrassed, but a little shown up, I guess. In a good way.

Buy a new one, the old one ain't working.

I can't speel for shyte. Nothing to worry about. If Bill Gates wanted us to spell he wouldn't have invented the spell checker.

I have no idea what the word flume means. I pretended that i just couldn't explain it and looked it up in the dictionary for them. Of course the explanation is in korean, so I still don't know, but they do. I'll look it up now.

ah...bit anticlimatic all told.

I have on regular occasions taught with my fly open or my shirt tucked into my underwear and it showing.

My old student Ket in Thailand used to find great amusement in pointing this out to me and then reminding me that I was like my dad (after I had made the comment the first time she noticed that it was the sort of thing my father did)

I make spelling errors frequently, usually because I am trying to talk and write on the board at the same time.

My solution to this is to pretend that I did it on purpose, to see if the kids are paying attention. Then I make a really goofy, eyebrows raised face, as if to say "I can't believe you didn't catch that!"

When it is a mistake that I can't or don't want to figure out, I just tell them it is part of their homework to go home and find out what it means, or how to spell it, or whatever. The only problem with this is that I actually have to remember the next time.
