http://joongangdaily.joins.com/article/view.asp?aid=2879616

"Using digital cameras and zoom lenses to take unauthorized pictures secretly has become commonplace. Pictures of bikini-clad women taken around swimming pools are all over the Internet. Two weeks ago, a man in his 70s was booked by Haeundae police on charges of taking pictures of women in bikinis. Another 28-year-old man was prosecuted for photographing the legs and breasts of women in swimsuits by the pool at Hangang Park."

I understand the creepiness of this but why should it be illegal? You take these pictures of women in public places wearing skimpy clothes and post them on the internet and anyone can see them. But anyone could see them in the first place, they were in public. Where's the crime?

Most of these pictures are focused on the sexual areas of the women being snapped. For example. And they generally go about their days mentally unprepared to discover they've become internet wack-off fodder.

There is also a lack of that "consent" thing that a lot of people are into these days.

These aren't portraits or candid shots. They become unwitting porn stars. And that's why it's illegal.

Your example shot was great. (I mean the link you provided. I don't think you took the picture.) But I have to say, wearing more clothing and learning how to sit would help. I saw a woman with a scarf on her lap on the subway to prevent you from seeing her underwear. First time I've ever seen that here. She was smart.

Actually, I think your shot was posed.

Maybe it's the fact that my dad gave me my first copy of Playboy at the age of 12, but if you find that titillating, there is something wrong. Wink

Isnt it illegal to take a photo of someone without their knowledge?
Thats why all the mobile phones have a sound when you
take a photo that you cant turn off.
Thats what I heard.

If you can see it with a camera, you can see it with your eyes. These women are in public. What's the difference between leering at them online or leering at them in public?

I was at the beach last week and of course I took photos. Let's say I'm taking a picture of my wife, and there's a girl with a bikini in the background. How can that be illegal? I can't help who's in pictures all of the time.

There is a fine line when taking pictures. There is a difference between say, taking a picture of a street with a girl in it and taking a picture of a girl on the street. Even though in the end they turn out the same way. I would bet that some of the people complaining about this would object to video cameras in every public place watching you every secod you are in public.

Sheesh... not me. The closest thing to a girly shot I have is this:

Maybe ajummas float your boat, I dunno.

The always classy Korean paper, Sports Chosun, has a section dedicated in their online edition to "net photos". Which seem to mostly be this "Headout" guy standing at the bottom of stairs and snapping away.

I think the difference between that and their section on racing girls

http://bbs2.sportschosun.com/mboard.asp?strBoardID=N-racing

Is that the racing girls are paid to lean on stuff and be photographed. There's an implied consent involved that isn't there with these bikini shots. And then there's the point that these shots are taken with the intent of sexual gratification. Which makes the difference between what that guy who got arrested was doing and Racetraitor's theoretical example involving his wife on the beach.

And I don't think that even the skankiest Itaewon ho would be down with her being wacked-off to.

Without money being exchanged, anyway.
