One of my friends paid W100,000 for the surgery on his son. I told him it was useless, but his wife insisted on it. This was about 4 years ago when the kid was 2.

Hahaha, the short tongue thing. I haven't heard that bollox since 2003. Please tell me they aren't still rolling out that tripe!

You'd thing by now they'd have seen from the first people who tried that that it makes no difference whatsoever.

Or maybe some kid who had the surgery got back from two years in America and everyone thinks the surgery is behind his miraculous English.

Most Koreans don't see the point, either. I haven't heard anything about it for years. With negative media coverage, public scorn and all, maybe it has died out. Even when it was at its peak, I bet it wasn't something to be described as widespread and prevalent in Korea. Just the thought that it was done at all was surprising.
