It's on the little knob. This is the only time I've used it, and we were only doing 30kph at the time.

Wait I changed my mind.
The 400d is only 19oz. the 40D is almost 2 friggin' pounds.
I like the 400D. $702 at Beach Camera.
Shouldn't this thread be in the Technology forum?
Just wondering. |

5D is the best camera on the market. it combines both the picture quality of the top pro 35m format DLSRs like the Canon 1D Mark series with the size of the semi pro-DSLRs like the 20D, 30D or the new 40D. It is full frame which is crucial if you shoot with wide angle glass. You will be able to use the best lenses Canon has to offer like they were designed to. For example the 16-35 L will be the best wide angle zoom lens it was disigned to be instead of being a 30-55mm lens that it would become on the 20D, 30D or 40D(math done in my head). The 24mm f/1.4 will still be the fastest wide angle lens on the market instead of just another fast prime. OTOH it is still not too big a camera like the Mark series which are tanks, almost useless when shooting photos on the street. leave these cameras to the sports photogs. I had the opportunity to hold a Mark II with a 16-35 lens. Its heavy. I can imagine it with the ridiculous 24-70mm lens. I would touch that. Ill be getting myself a 5D with the 24 f/1.4L this year. |

Just to jump in here...
What do you guys think of the Canon EOS?
I want something that has:
-fast speed between pics (hate waiting, want the rapid fire option)
-no self-focus. I want to control it all myself.
-very decend zoom (love animal pics on vacation)
-digital
Basically, I'm sick of all the small silver auto-cameras I've had and want something meatier.
Suggestions? |

Ive got the 20D so the 30D is pretty much the same or better.
1. You can fore off a lot of shots continuously. I shoot in RAW and Im totally satisfied with what the camera can do.
2. The AF is good. If you dont want it, switch it off.
3. Zoom is totally dependent on the lens, not the camera. You can get long zooms for fairly cheap or you can buy monsters for a thousands of dollars. Its the lens, not the camera. With a camera like the 30D for example if you want a long zoom lens it doesnt matter...if you want a wide angle then your options are limited. Thats why my next camera will not be a crop but a full frame.

thats one of those cherry options. Its a cherry on the sundae. Like the sensor cleaning. Its a gimmick really...it wont make any difference in the end - the quality of the final image on paper or on the computer screen. I wouldnt pay more for that option. Its not important. |

So will I still have that "fish-bowl" effect from the lens? Those little cameras really bother me when it comes to distorting things. |

not unless you shoot with a fisheye lens. With a wide angle lens you will have some distortion at the edges but not a fisheye effect. You have to pay a lot extra for that! |

That's the one I got.
- It's zippy if you set it to be.
- You can switch it on or off.
- As jinju said, it's all in the lens you get. Remember, you have to buy the lens separate. The one attached to the sample pic there has a wider range than mine does (18-55mm)
- Indeed it is.

These are the 2 lenses that spend the most time on camera body and always carry with me for 'walkaround' shooting. The 28-70mm is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Optics and build quality are superb. The thing is built like a hand grenade. The 50mm, for the price, won't break the bank and is also superb image wise. |

I hate that lens, its too big. Get a wide angle prime: 24 or 28mm. |
