Wolverines fans: out yourself now.

I feel for you...

Is there any getting over such a crushing, historic upset? I feel like it's March Madness and it's football season...ouch! Shocked

Michigan shouldn't even be a State.

What a great win for App... I guess you should never count out defending national champs, even if they are D-II. Doesn't it seem like the hopes and dreams of every Michigan fan are somehow always trampled by a team from NC? Laughing

Michigan has always been overrated. The only thing Michigan had for them was the Big House and the name.

I can't imagine a worse loss for any team with yearly aspirations of a national title. I think the worst part is it was their first game. What do you play for now? How does a team rebound and find motivation for the rest of the season? I'll bet Ohio State fans are laughing their assses off. I just don't see how a IAA team goes into the Big House and says, "what's up biatches, take out your tessticles and hand 'em over!"

I don't think they could possibly get a BCS at-large berth now, even if they wreck pretty much every opponent down the stretch. Only winning the Big 10 will do. Fortunately for them, this doesn't affect their conference standing.

I guess the question is, will they motivate themselves or hang their heads. Also, is Lloyd Carr in jeopardy of losing his job? He's got a title, but they haven't done much in recent years.

A complete spanking of Ohio State will be enough for Michigan fans.

I'd love to see how this loss gets figured into BCS computers.

So is Appalachia State allowed to be ranked, or is that only for Division I-A teams?

They each have their own rankings, D IA and D IAA. I don't think a IAA team can receive any votes for the IA poll. The same writers who vote for the IA probably have little information to vote for the IAA teams, the same with the IA coaches.

I keep reading that Appalachia State is "formerly" Division I-AA, or something to the effect that there is no Division I-AA anymore, like the whole division has been done away with.

Edit: Yep, it's no longer I-AA.

Been a Michigan fan all my life. Not shocked at all by this. I think people are making more of it than they should. All we learned is that App. St. is better than peope thought and Michigan is not that great and is out of the National title picture already. I'm not too upset because, I never expected Mich to compete for the NT anyway and I suspected they were not that great. They can still win the Big 10 (they won't) and they can still go to a 2nd-tier bowl (they will). Nothing spectacular, but under Carr, that's what we've grown to expect. Carr is a great coach if your goal is to win 9 or 10 games, but he only seems to have the team prepared to play 50 percent of the time. Mich is usually talented enough that not being prepared for 5 or 6 games a season, means losing 2 or 3. Last year, I thought he might have found his way back to that 1997 season (then came the USC thrashing). Even that year, when UM won the AP title, they didn't look so good against WSU in the Rose Bowl. Thanks to that weak performance, they lost the coaches' poll as Neb beat Tenn very convincingly. My point is, every year Michigan looks unprepared in a few games and I think their opponents can see it. Stewart Mandel of CNNSI is predicting this will be his last year. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_blogs/football/ncaa/2007/09/five-things-we-learned-this-weekend.htmlI don't care for Stewart, but in the past he has defended Carr and is generally quite slow to condemn coaches. I think he may be right this time. Carr may step down at season's end.
Anyway, someone here said that if they beat OSU, people will be able to get past this defeat. Well, one, they need to get past it a lot faster than that, and two, I'll be over it completely if they beat ND. I hate them way more than I hate the Buckeyes. In fact, the Buckeyes aren't even on my hate list. But ND? They're first and second on that list.
