I'm currently searching for an alternate store/location that might sell Kingsford charcoal. Cosco said they won't carry it again till the spring. Just got a weber bbq grill, tried the Korean charcoal (oak) and it wasn't quite the same. If anyone knows where to get Kingsford charcoal, I would very much appreciate directions.

Thanks.

One brand of Korean charcoal I used was so full of air-pockets that it kept exploding and covering all the meat with grit. BBQ ruined. Luckily, there was enough booze to recover the situation..........

I used to feed my dog charcoal biscuits to try and keep the stench down from it's rather problematic gas.

That was probably down to the cabbage diet she was put on to lose weight?

Try Hannam Supermarket (beck qha jam) in Hannam Dong. They have Palm charcoal. That's the best! Environmentally friendly and no smell. They sell it just as you are entering in that center BBQ place. They come in clear plastic bags. Great stuff!

Hannam supermarket is where I bought my weber grill on Sunday. The only charcoal they had was the Korean kind that goes snap, crackel, pop. Like the other poster was describing...

I'm going to look harder for the palm charcoal. Is that imported?

My wife's uncle was part of the team that invented palm charcoal. It's made from compressed palm nuts. It was being produced in Malaysia, but now there producing it in Korea. It's usually black, circular (resembling a tiny drag car wheel) with a hole in the middle. The stuff is awesome!!

You can't find Kingsford at any Costco. Hannam Supermarket has been out the last few times I've been there.

Korean charcoal did okay at our last barbecue on Saturday night. Luckily we had a few boxes of firewood around and used that too...

We're expecting a shipment of 4 bags of weber charcoal that we bought online last week. I found it on auction.co.kr.

Good luck!

Hi,

I recently picked up 2 huge bags of Kingsford Charcoal at Costco (they were bundled together). They're the 21.6 pound size. The wife and I can't possibly use up both before we leave Korea next spring, so if you're looking for a big unused bag give me a shout. I think they're 23,000 each at Hannam Market but I'll sell you mine for 10,000.

I live in Itaewon.

SOLD -

Why can't they sell it during other seasons? Are they afraid that perhaps someone might have the gall to use Kingston charcoal to--Lord forbid--have samgyeopsal indoors because it is to cold outside and thus die tragically of a carbon monoxide overdose?
