Last night in Anguk area I saw 3 guys, about aged 28-32, out vandalising stuff along a dark and poorly lit street. They appeared a little drunk, but not much. First they pushed over a scooter and smashed it up. Then they took flying kicks at the car beside it, smashing the mirrors of it and breaking a window.
They stopped when they saw me coming, but only momentarily- before continuing swearing, shouting, and breaking up the row of parked cars.
I felt like calling the police, but didn't have the number on me. Would there have been an english service operator at 1am anyway?
What struck me is that these guys were up to the sort of random mischief most western guys grow out of by their late teens. And secondly, that it was unusual to see koreans misbehaving like this...
have you seen any similar vandalism? |

Yep. The appearance of my camera phone put a quick end to it. They stopped and took off before I could get the video to start recording. |

The number's 119. Not too hard to remember if you're an American. |

That's for an Ambulance and Fire Brigade, 112 for the cops. Sorry don't know the English speaking service so that's something I should really try to find out. Add to the fact that it's near impossible to give directions for these back alleys when there's no road signs. |

I was out drinking in Gangnam with the middle aged owner of my old gym and one of his young employees.
Staggering down the street to get a cab in the drizzle at about 2am he spotted one of those fluorescent yellow banners advertising a rival gym, and summoned the young guy over to kneel down and set it on fire with their cigarette lighters.
I laughed pretty hard. |
