surely the writers of HOUSE finished first -year university or remember high school anatomy class lesson to know that the right side of the body is controlled by the left side of the brain and visa versa.

i tried to watch an episode of HOUSE today because it comes recommended, yet they decide to examine what he can see and do with his right side: test right eye and right hand in order to see if the right side of his brain is totally damaged?

stupid...

either they know nothing about medicine and the show is full of mumbo jumbo that many viewers think is based on real science

or else they dumb it down to the point where they cant bother to say one extra line about which side of the brian controls which side of the body

intelligent books require selection, intelligent films are becoming rare and intelligent t.v. shows are almost nonextistent

(not even a rant, a dismissive commentary)

I didn't need to look any further than any show that comes on MTV or Fox.

yet some think that House is an "intelligent" show

perhaps they think the medicine is based on real science?

is it on Fox? I've never seen that network but it sounds representative of television in general

I have noticed that often on tv or in movies when they are talking about the right side of something, it's actually the left that they show but I think that's because it appears as the right side to the viewers watching.

Could that be the reason?

The lack of hard, scientific data in pop culture entertainment is truly a travesty. Even comic strips are not immune. Behold:

You know what Gary Larson, you idiot? Polar bears live on the opposite side of the world from penguins!

The one on this very second. Turn to OCN. Was on this morning as well as now.

Medical dramas are said to infuse actual medicine into the shows but suspending disbelief is difficult when the most basic of medical info is misrepresented.

Switch over to MacGyver on CNTV instead
Far better researchers on that show.
Today is voodoo special Smile

They've sealed him in a coffin....

They're riding in a truck...

He's eating some leaf...

He's got some rope through a knot in the wood...

He's tied it inside the coffin...

Cool. He's busted out. Now whack those henchmen with the shovel!

Brilliant.

No idea what the leaf was for. Oh here we go...

MacGyver is on? the guy from decades ago who makes anything out of anything? havent watched that since junior high. flashback!

but these days the t.v. is on only as background when i'm checking messages and writing emails, about 30-60 minutes a day

there's simply nothing i like/can stomach to watch

(until LOST returns, but then i'll wait a year and watch back episodes on a rainy morning)
