I was working for this after school program .Everything was fine , until the last month. My boss came in , and told my korean teaching partner that I didnt hav to come in for the last two weeks. They had to re due the class room , and the new teacher was coming earlier then expected. I was told not to worry and that I would be getting everything that was due to me.
However , I never got my bonus ( 2 100 000 won and rent fee approx 300 000 won)
So six months later , I finally have the time to go to the labor office .
After everything was said and done , I realised just how badly I got screwed. i was told ; by hte labor office that because I didnt work 12 months , I will not be getting the bonus.
The management company planned this all along

that doesnt seem right, unless you were fired your contract said you were working for 12 months you should still get your bonus.Do this tell them you want a work statement or go in with a copy of your contract to the labor office. There is no way they should get away with this. But you should have handled it sooner

That's not right. Ask someone higher up the Labor food chain.

(1) Those final two week sCOULD be considered your two weeks vacation, if you didn't already take them,

(2) Labor doesn't let schools get away with 11-month firings anymore, so why would they let this school get away with, essentially, an 11.5 month firing?

You weren't fired. You didn't quit. It appears that you fulfilled your contract. You should most definitely address this with someone higher up at labor.

Do you think the outcome would hav been any different , had I handled it ASAP? I dont see how .
I went in with my contract ,pay stubs , bank book , and passport with my work visa.It didnt do any good.
Once I stated that , the school let me leave a few days early , the labor officer gave me this look , and I knew I was screwed.
He told me , according to korean labor law , the employee must work at least 12 months to get the bonus.

Add insult to injury , the management company didnt tell the elementry school that they ( the management ) company told me , that I could leave early.
The elementry school , thinks , that I just decided not to show up for work the last few days. So therefore , I cant use them as a reference
I hav no idea hwy the management company did this to me.
They didnt hav any problems with me .At one point , they even offfered me a raise if I were to stay.

Never let your guard down even when your boss is being nice to you. Just remember that they'll screw you anyway they can. Always be suspicious and stay vigilant.

Being so close to finishing your contract and your boss offering to leave 2 weeks early should have raised an alarm about your severance and other benefits. I would've automatically questioned about my severance to my boss and gotten all my money before I left the school.

I did ask him , and he said everything was fine. he just needed time. I had never had a single problem with him.During chu sok , chinese new year and even x mas vacation , he gave us a few more vacation days then stated on the contract. He even gave us air cons when we asked for them.
I didnt see it coming .Its like a sucker punch.

I second that one. I think Koreans can't begin to be as conniving as many Europeans... try as they may!
