I am considering coming back to Korea and if I come to Seoul, I would want to live near the Taerung Olympic Training Center or within convenient distance of it. Does anyone live in this area that could tell me what they think of it? My interest in being there specifically is to be close to the training center, which I have been invited to visit in the past (though it was very inconvenient to get there from Busan with any regularity)
Here's an illustration of the area. It's in the northeast quadrant of the city. I see it's also quite close to Seoul Women's University

I live in the general area. It's just very normal. North of Taerung station is the enormous sprawl of high-rises known as Nowon-gu. South of Taerung is the older, more shabby, Jungnang-gu.
What do you want to know? |

One stop away from Hwarangdae is Bonghwasan, outside exit 3 there is a really good Home Plus - the place has a lot of foreign goods in stock, and is usually not that busy. |

The Training Center, Military Academy, and the front gate to Seoul Womens' University are all along the same wide tree-lined boulevard. It's a nice area to drive through, and a clear boundary to the Seoul proper sprawl just to the west. Places to live in the general vicinity include around the back gate to the Womens' University, ShinaeDong, and around the Technical University, SanUpDae.
You wouldn't by chance be training for the Summer Olympics? I read that the U.S. team might be training in Korea, due to China's heavy smog problem. Apples and oranges, really. |

Its an older Korean neighborhood. Not much too it, but the rents aren't bad. |

It's on line 6, so no transfers when going to Itaewon I guess. |

Thanks for the info so far, it seems the area is typical Korea. Being so far out on the outskirts of the city I was just wondering if it was heavily inconvenient to do anything else entertaining in the city, for example there are places in Busan where most people would find it quite boring to live due to the distance from beaches, hangouts etc. Though in this instance that would all be secondary to me. It would be nice to be in an area with trees.
Hapki, In my particular sport its indoors with no atmospheric factors to consider so the Olympic team is most likely staying put at the OTC in Colorado. Besides, I am not at that level I was just extended an opportunity to use the facilities if I lived in Seoul (which I will need to re-confirm! lol). |

I wonder what my chances are of finding a decent ESL job if I showed up in my area of choice and looked around. I've always just arranged for my jobs from home. Assuming that the Koreans would still be willing to have me at their facility, I would really prefer to live near the training center. |
