It's OK, but California roll in the states, the similar thing that Americans call Sushi, is many times better. I want crab meat, avocado, cheese, and good flavor in my Gimbap.

I eat it on occassion when I get it at Homeplus as I haven't found a Gimbap shop locally in my neighborhood as it's quite a primitive area when it comes to businesses with HomePlus being the easiest way to get it a 10 minute bus ride away.

Eat it the same day you get it or it turns hard and nasty. Good cheap snack that is not fat laden. I need a good salad bar with baked foods bar near my place to be honest. Those college cafeterias, buffet restaurants, and supermarkets are the bomb in America.

Seriously, comparing california rolls to kimbap Wink

Kimbap is absolutely wonderful considering it's easy to pick up and only 1000 won. It's great for what it is. Sort of like a hamburger from a fast food joint. Sure ain't like a truck stop diner's hamburger, but for the price...

Where is gimbap 1,000 won? At my local Gimbap Chunguk, it costs 2,000-2,500 won.

What kind of kimbap are you getting?

The major kimbap (kimbap nara I think?) chain that has restaurants pretty much on every street charges only 1,000 WON for a single kimbap.

It is pointless to compare gimbap and sushi. It takes years of training to become a real sushi chef, and ideally they only use the freshest seafood possible.

Sushi is an exquisite art, gimbap is prole food for the busy masses. No comparison, really.

Truth. Normal kimbap is pretty gross. I hate that fishy smell. At best I can tolerate it. The tuna is decent, and dipping it in sauce also makes it much more palatable.

People are getting confused. There are many types of kimbap (for example tuna), but when people refer to "kimbap" with nothing else, they are refering to just the ordinary 1000 won stuff. And I can't possibly even count the places with 1000 won kimbap, and I am not exaggerating.
