| Does anyone know the cheapest way for me to send suitcases and boxes from Korea to the U.S. I'm leaving in three weeks and I need to figure out how to get these things home before I set off traveling. Time is not an issue; I don't care if it takes three months to get there. I'm concerned only with the cheapest option. The Virtual Bellhop and First Luggage companies are expensive, as are regular air mail and fed-ex. Does anyone have experience sending things as sea cargo? How do you do this? At the post office? What's the price like? I would greatly appreciate any advice you have for me! |

I've used Korea Post to send a few boxes by surface mail back to NZ. Took between 6-8 weeks, and was the cheapest option by far.
Assume it would be similar to send to the USA.
Have a play around on their website to see what you can find.

Surface mail from Korea post.
Buy a couple #5 boxes from your local post office (the largest you can send stateside).
You can put up to 20 kg (44 lbs) in a box and send it stateside for 48k won. Doesn't get much cheaper than a buck a pound. |

| FYI, I was allowed to send the #6 size boxes by surface to NZ thru Korea Post. So far I've sent about 4 of those and what seems like a million #5 boxes... |

That's interesting. Last year I went to the post office with several heavy #6 boxes packed and all ready to go, and the bastards told me I couldn't send them - #5 max. As the friend who had just dropped me off at the Post Office had already gone off to work, it was a real pain in my butt! In the end I was not willing to repack them there and then, and I couldn't carry them by myself, so I had an argument with the clerk and ended up leaving my boxes on the P.O. floor for half a day while I went home and contacted a shipping company. Shipping Company went to the Post Office and picked them up in the early afternoon...they arrived safely about a month later. Moral of the story: Beware #6 boxes!! |

| If my memory is correct, the biggest box you can send must have a height, length and width of no more than 220cm when added together. |
