I don't have Korean on my computer here at home, but it's pronounced more like Jja-Jjang-myeon. It's quite delicious!

I'm not sure of any restaurants in Gangnam, but there must be a Chinese style place around there. Perhaps someone who lives there could point you in the right direction.

Although not as good as the restaurant cooked version, any family mart or GS25 will have Jja Jjang Myeon in ramyon type containers. You add the water to the noodles, then drain them once they are plump, and the Jja Jjang sauce is in liquid form (with all the good chunks of course) that you can add to the noodles and stir in.

Perhaps that will be a good temporary fix until you can find the real stuff.

Also most supermarkets sell (in the fridge or freezer section) Jja Jjang myeon packets to make at home. Give that a shot!

The packet JJM is actually quite tasty, as is the pre-packaged spaghetti. Decent enough when you're too knackered to cook something proper and aren't feeling too fussy. Not for everyday consumption though.

True. JJM originated in, of all places, Incheon.

real good 짜장면 is hard to come by.

I saw in this documentary that like 70-80% of the chinese food places here use the same brand of choonjang (it's the black stuff in the sauce)...that and varying amounts of MSG they use at each restaurant.

to evaluate the quality of a chinese restaurant (in korea) by how good their Gan Jjajang (간짜장) is. That's the dish where they serve the noodles and the sauce in two separate bowls and you're supposed to dump the sauce on the noodles. Deelish

When you order, don't say 'Cha Chang Mein'. This isn't china.

Check your refrigerator door. There should be 50 or so Chinese menus with Ja Ja Meon on it. Get it with Tang su yook (sweet and sour pork) for about 10,000 won, combo, with 2 bowls of ja ja meon.

My coworker recommended a place near exit 8 of Gangnam station. When you come out exit 8, walk straight about 30 yards and there should be a Chinese place on your left with a yellow sign. It's about two buildings past Platinum if you know where that is. Good luck... I've never been there.

I discovered a little place just one building away from me that makes it. I'm eating some right now. Delicious!

This 'Cha CHang Mein' and 'Ja Ja Meon'... is it from the same language as
'Kam Sa Mi Da' and 'Cha Ka Man Yo'?
