... an interesting article about Koreans and how long they work but how little they accomplish (it's improving!) ...

But that's not what this post is about. Instead, I found the following line pretty interesting:

Quote:
When productivity is measured by wealth produced per hour, Norway ranked first with $37.99.

I know this isn't 'salary' per se, but I figure, when measured like that, we don't do too badly here.

Discuss.

But when it comes to how much money each worker produces per person per year, the US comes out on top! That's what I like to see! No country squeezes more profit out of their people than America!

USA, USA!

PS - Anyone else find it interesting how the article is in a Korean paper but apparently doesn't refer to Korea as an "advanced" nation? "However, Americans work longer hours than workers in other advanced nations."

When you have a nation where a good number of the kids finish university having never had to work a real job, doesn't that count as advanced? Are the areas outside Seoul THAT much worse?

With the exception of pockets in Daejeon, Daegu, and Busan, yes, they are.

The irony of it all is the S. Korea is responsible for developing and commercializing mucho dynamic "real time communication" technologies and devices yet the productivity stats tell us another story.

Baffling???

I would love to see the stats on educational productivity, they spend a lot more time at school and not much to show for it.

The US squeezes profitability out of its workers, at the expense of unemployment and reduced benefits packages. Causing that much damage to its own society isn't very productive, in my opinon.

someone on another thread noted that norway is so high because of its natural resources. But the US also has a lot of resources so that explains to some extent their high numbers (as does canada, australia, south africa, etc.)

Korea with very few resources is doing quite well. Also, as the article notes,

"The annual average productivity growth rate in Korea was 4.7 percent, the third fastest of 122 countries, following Bosnia and Herzegovina with 7.8 percent and China with 5.7 percent."

if you're an economist this is the figure that you key in on. It's clear that koreans are working hard and working better and that their ability to do so is increasing at a faster rate than most other countries.
