I was under the impression that SMOE's goal was to have a NSET in every school. But I just found out that three schools near me that had NSETs last year are no longer participating in the program, and I was told that my school might not be able to have a native teacher next year. What's the deal? Anyone know anything about this?

I think they rotate around a bit to make it fair, teacher for a couple years in one school then change to another school...at least until they have enough for all the schools.

Steve,

Are these teachers/schools you mentioned, part of the ETIS program ( the official name of the SMOE program English teachers in Seoul)?

I can definitely tell you there is still expansion. Can't get enough qualified people. They just don't take anyone, despite appearances... Pay levels are considerably higher too than other programs, as well as opportunity for OT.

The goal you spoke of, was not the vision of SMOE. It is the vision of the presidency. Which can change but for the most part, they are trying to reach towards more native teachers (well qualified) in all their schools.

SMO EPIK GEPIK KORTTA

This is getting confusing.

All these abbreviated goverment programs that offer basically the same thing.

The same thing? How so? EPIK and SMOE offer better pay, SMOE gives a housing allowance of 500,000W/month compared to GEPIK's 300,000, SMOE gives 20 days of vacation versus 14 for GEPIK...and there is more.

Aye. Its NOT the same thing. SMOE is clearly superior to GEPIK.

There are GEPIKer's in their schools who are up to their armpits in perks and benefits. However, when you just go by what the contract says, SMOE is better.
