Be it resolved a guy on the subway wearing his sun glasses and short sleeved hoodie with the hood up a la Rain a la the look Colbert mocks is about the funniest male fashion trend since Korean men started wearing lipstick. |

It's not about Korea. I think it's more about your (and my) age. Soon, you will probably be saying the same thing about kids back home and their fashion sense. It's a cycle that has probably been going on for centuries |

Couldn't agree more. It's one of the few things that make me laugh out loud on a daily basis here.
Seeing these copy-cat Rain homos with their primped, blow dried, product laden hair and Top Gun Ray Bans while they stand in line at McDonalds waiting to order a Fillet-O-Fish never gets old. Their reaction when you point and laugh at them is classic! |

Fashion is so fickle, do not be surprised if that came back (though I wouldn't be wearing one). Fashion is fickle enough back in our own respective countries, let alone a completely foreign one.
I think it's horrible, but I can just imagine what everyone will be wearing 40 years from now. Hell, we might all shave off our hair! |

In general, the Seoulites are much more fashion oriented than the people back home. On the one hand, this means the people are generally better and more fashionably dressed than where I'm from. On the other hand, it means we see a lot more style-abortions, like the one the OP mentioned. Tis a double edged blade, that fashion. |

ON a side note, the fashion industy is the biggest waste of time and money in the world! And anyone who tells me they are studying fashion or are in the fashion industry tends to lose my respect right away (though there are exceptions to everything of course). |

Whatever. This is generational, I agree, rather than country-specific. When I was back in the States and Canada, I was amazed to see so many rural and middle-class kids cultivaing the ghetto-gangbanger hiphop look and attitude.
Every generation has their 'thing', and people in older generations can't get it. That's why it's 'cool'. Eventually, the cool look turns conventional, and a new round begins.
The only common demoninator is that 20 years into the future, all look back and lament about what tools they looked like! |

in austria fashion designers are the most respected jobs in the country
which is the way it should be because fashion has saved a lot more lives than doctors |

Yeah, right! What exactly does the fashion industry do for the world? |

I don't really agree with this, since you could broadly categorize fashion as a form of art and well, last I check art isn't regarded as a waste by most people. However this....

I am talking about the fashion industy, not fashion as an art. They are very different things. |

Ah, the pointing and laughing. Seems we all do it to some extent when things and people are just a little left of our center of gravity. Don't worry, happens in the best of cultures. |

The RAIN look? What's that?
Isn't it small drops of water (If in Korea, infused with various industrial chemicals) falling from the sky.
Koreans react really weird to Rain.
Whenever they see Rain, they like to put magazines and newspapers on their heads.
Oh my god! There's Rain, quick put a newspaper on my head.
Personally I'm a big fan of Rain, whenever I see Rain, I too get really excited, the garden needs some moisture. |
