Thanks for the laugh.

My confession:

A couple of years ago I was on my way to eat supper in a restaurant and happened to see a nice orchid in a flower shop window. While eating I decided to splurge and buy it on the way home.

I dropped in and asked how much it was and decided the price was worth it. Then I proceeded to make a fool of myself. I asked how much sun and water the darn thing needed. The ajumma rattled on and on and I wasn't understanding. I figured she couldn't understand my Korean. So I drew her pictures. A nice sun with sunbeams. A nice water pitcher with water coming out. She just 'refused' to understand my perfectly legitimate questions. In the end I gave up and left with my cheery new orchid.

On the way to the car, I pinched a leaf. It was an artificial plant. Embarassed Now the ajumma's explanation made sense.

How do you do it...I feel so guilty that I couldn't possibly call in sick unless I was close the death...it's less stressful to go to work than it is to pick up the phone.

When I first came to Korea my roommate phoned in sick saying he couldn't use the squat toilet because he had the runs.

I have another bad one, but it's about my mother haha.

A few years back, she had to have her jaw broken and re-wired shut. She couldn't lay down to sleep, so for that time, she slept in our living room in a big reclining chair (not reclined fully). Now our house is a baby-split entry, so at the top of the landing, there is a half wall (this is important for later in the story).

In the middle of the night she heard a sound and woke up. She looked straight ahead at the wall, and saw a shadowed figure of a head, and an arm that looked like it was in a position to attack her. She freaked out, and froze, just staring at this outline for about 10 minutes.

Finally she got the courage to turn around, only to see that my cousin had left her Mr. Potato head figurine on our half wall by the stairs. It's arm was in a raised position. We still make fun of her to this day for it.

That was the greatest thing i have read in a while. And yet, i still kinda feel bad for her ^_~

My apartment laundry room has recently had an infestation of spiders. Not even particularly scary spiders, just the brown ones that are only slightly larger than the house spiders I'm used to back home. They've claimed the laundry room their own personal realm, and no matter how many anti-spider maneuvers I have tried, they just keep coming back. But they stick to the laundry room, so we are temporarily at a truce. The threshold of laundry room and kitchen serves as our DMZ.

Last night I was laying in bed in that state between wakefulness and sleep, when I felt something tickle my arm. I itched my arm and tried to fall back asleep. Then I felt it again, so I shook my arm a little. I tried rubbing it again, but the tickling feeling would not go away. Suddenly I realized that THE SPIDERS ARE F*CKING ATTACKING ME IN MY SLEEP AND I AM GOING TO DIE A HORRIBLE SPIDER RELATED DEATH.

I sprang out of bed so fast, in a state of panic and turned on the light. There were no spiders on my bed. I felt the weird sensation on my arm again, looked down, and realized that a few stray threads at worked their way out of my shirt sleeve.

I'm pretty much a walking, talking embarassment, but one thing that's post worthy happened a few years ago (so not really "today"). I think it was even parodied on a sketch comedy show. I was working as a restaurant manager, and going on a few days without sleep. I was holding a cup of coffee that I just poured when somebody asked me what time it was. I turned my wrist to look at my watch . . .

Haha both stories are great.

I totally would have freaked out about a potentially life threatening spider incident as well. Too many legs...

Glad to know I'm not the only one who has these moments.

its concerning that i have so many of these stories.....

* i have actually stood on the end of a broom, and had it spring up and wack me in the face. And you thought it only happened in cartoons!

* demonstrating something (cannot remember what) i held a water bottle upside down over my head. the lid wasnt on properly, and i split water all over me. AND THEN, later on, when telling a friend about what I had done, again holding said waterbottle over my head, I did it again!

* i have problems with doors. All doors. i always push them when i should be pulling them, , and vice versa, or choose the wrong door to open i walked into the same glass doors 3 times in the same day.

yes, before you ask, i do have a tertiary education!
