frankly it is rude to say to someone IM sorry I dont want to talk to you!
there is no polite way of saying GET LOST!!
so of course it enraged him.. he was brave enough to start a conversation in English which isnt his mother tongue and what does he get back!!
IM sorry I dont want to talk to you!!!

sorry Kermo!! you got what you aksed for!!
if you didnt want to talk to him, you should have just answered his questions coldly and not engaged in the conversation..
telling someone you dont want to talk to them IS RUDE!!

No, he didn't try to start a conversation in English. He POKED my friend, interrupted us, and asked in BANMAL where we were from, after staring at us for ages. This isn't a real smooth operator, and he ignored our hints re: body language and Korean remarks to each other. I felt it was best to be blunt, and I thought it would have been better than pretending he didn't exist.

IG, can you honestly picture Kermo being rude toward someone? Even if she tried and they badly deserved it? Yeah, I didn't think so.

Oh right, good show! So she just whips out her cameraphone -- the one that goes "CHEES-UH!" or "BZZZZZ-ZZZZZ!" whenever you snap a pic -- and then we can all play "Guess How Many Pieces Kermo's Handpone Is In" Or "Guess How Many Teeth She's Got Left"

Oh, Jongnoguru, you are absolutely full of mischief this afternoon. I'd be surprised if you had a gin-and-tonic to excuse you, so if this thread goes where I think it's going, you've got a serious spanking coming to you...

I do? (think unsexy thoughts, think unsexy thoughts)

I don't think there are many here, if any, that hasn't had this happen yet...if it gets to rough you can always just get off the bus and jump on the next.

Despite this, I'm feeling quite well-disposed toward Korean males at the moment, since a lot of my students are very sweet young men, not to mention the valiant bus driver and the repairman/a.k.a McGyver who visited my home yesterday morning.

This guy was just his own special brand of jerk-- either horribly drunk or absolutely spoiling for a fight-- probably both.

No, I said "he asked us where we were from." At least, that's what I think he wanted.

As I recall, it went like this:

*POKE*
어디?

OK. so what about the part when he said "Well, if you don't want to talk to me, then stop talking altogether!" was that in Korean too?

You start a conversation you can't even finish it. you're talkin' a lot, but you're not sayin' anything. When I have nothing to say, my lips are sealed. say somet hing once, why say it again?

With your signature, this makes a REALLY amusing statement:
