I've just been given details of the orientation for next week.

I will stay at a rather glamorous looking country club, their website looks good anyway.

I've seen the itinerary for the orientation. I was dreading this a while back, but now I see it as a time to try and relax and feel good that I won't be teaching for a whole week.

I'll see you all there. I probably won't say much and I probably won't try to socalize.

But I think I saw a pool table on that country club website. I haven't played that in a while. I wouldn't mind a game.

Is it La Vie D'Or? The place that usually ends up getting trashed at GEPIK orientations?

I am also going and have been given instructions on how to get there by my co-worker, who has fairly limited English. One thing I think she tried to explain is that at the Suwon University Station exit, there is a bus specifically taking the teachers to the Orientation?
Can anyone please clarify this for me?

Yes, it's the 'la vie' place.

Gordana - I have been told the same. My co-teacher said there is a free bus that takes you to 'la vie' from Byeongjeom Station, at the gate for Suwon University, Gate 2 my co-teacher wrote down for me.

I hope I don't get on the wrong train but I'm going to leave home early on Monday morning.

You will be lucky if you get there mate. Don't pack your bags until Sunday night/ You never know when that last minute phone call is going to come through.

It's been 2 years since I did my GEPIK orientation. In terms of a "learning" experience it wasn't very good. From what I've heard, they've improved. OP, just look at it as a great opportunity to meet a bunch of good people from all over. I made some good friends at my orientation and we've stayed pretty close over the last 2 years. Have fun!!

I went to the last one, and the place got trashed.

Still... you may get lucky and have them put you up in a motel. Makes you feel less guilty about skipping the lectures

Can you give a rough time all this stuff starts? I don't expect to be staying there nightly.

Went to the last one. Didn't know much until the last minute. Poorly organised (what a surprise!)

Had to sleep on the floor so left half way through.

The Kiwi bird can barely speak English and I noticed spelling errors in her slideshow. Nice lady and all, but honestly....

However, it is a good opportunity to get hammered and make some friends.

Do they keep an eye on you or can you get away with just leaving?

I'm 34 and don't drink. So if it's noisy at night, if I have to sleep on the floor and if the event is boring, I will go home.

Can you commute each day from home, if where you sleep is useless?

My co-teacher told me that the bus from the station to la vie d'or will leave at 10.30 - is that right?
I thought about communting every day but it looks like a 2 hour journey from where I am.......although if it turns out to be as horrific as I'm imagining then 2 hours will be a breeze.

Just checked with my co-teacher, I have to be there by 10.30am. So I think you have until 10.30am to get there.

I was told it is about 70 minutes on the train from where I live, it takes me around that long to get to Seoul.

So, if the sleeping environment is negative, I will probably leave the event at a sensible time and sleep in my own bed.

It's only a week and I may be better off commuting. I haven't played pool in ages. I used to be very good.
