My ARC should be here next week so I'll be looking at getting hooked up broadband wise.
Like so much of this place, most of it goes straight over my head, so rather than ponce about trying to figure out just who offers the best deal/service etc myself, I thought some of you could help take any unnecessary leg work out of the equation and suggest a few of the options available to me.
As always, I thank you gently from behind. |

Should'a asked in the tech forum....
KT and a few of the others are a bit more expensive but have pretty big pipes (if you are seriously into downloading) if you are NOT on the lite subscription - rates from 30k + per month.
Your local cable TV company(s) will have an internet / TV package for something in the low to mid 20k range (22-25k) for 384-512k broadband + added cable channels or digital cable.
They usually waive the connection fee with a 1 year combined subscription.
Next day service (at your convenience) is common and late-same-day (after 7pm hookup) sometimes happens if you call early in the AM (8-9am) |

Do it now, you don't need an ARC. I learned the hard way and suffered unnecessarily for 2 whole weeks.
KT requires only a copy of your passport OR an ARC and I did it myself with an Engrishee speaking operator.
KT phone number for English speakers:
02-520-7800
God speed. |

Call 'em and ask. I didn't bother because I was so elated/desperate/stunned and could barely mumble my address. I assume they send a bill to your house and you pay, well... somehow.
I do have an ARC and bank acct now, but had neither when I made The Call. |

The cost is 40,000KRW monthly and my speed is just stupid. I asked for the fastest and got a dedicated optical line installed in 2 days. |

You have to get KT. Go for the megapass premium, which I think is the fastest one, as it is also the cheapest one. I pay 25k a month. Installation and modem rental were both free. It's a sweet deal. |

Unfortunately, my passport is being held by immigration until they process my ARC so basically, I'm in pocession of neither at the moment.
Despite some conflicting posts, I think KT will be my first port of call.
Thanks for the info. |

You don't have a scanned copy in your sent email to recruiters, etc? That's all they need. |

Say what you like about Koreans', they're pretty damn efficient.
My ARC arrived this morning, with 90-minutes I had a bank account (with airfare reimbursment and settlement fee paid in) and an internet account opened with KT (36,000KW per month), which is being connected on Monday. Probably been quicker had it not been a Friday lunchtime when we went round to the local office and signed up.
To do the same in the UK would have taken at least a couple of days.
Enjoy your weekend. |
