Hi. I have a student who is taking a course in economics which is delivered entirely in English. She's having a little trouble following the lesson, despite being a rather accomplished English speaker. I was wondering if anyone had any resources or know of any books that might help with some of the technical language I assume the prof. is using.

Thanks

I hear you. A lot of people don't understand that once you get to a certain level of English education, the language itself begins to branch out into specialized vocabulary. In other words, what you are studying will dictate which vocabulary words you will learn. For example, I am about to finish my MA in Ed. and can ramble off all kinds of cool words in the Education field. However, if you ask me to give you the meanings of vocabulary words from, say, a degree in medicine, well, you are out of luck. Your best bet would be to fish around the net and find a list of most commonly used vocabulary words in this field.

http://www.tuition.com.hk/dictionary/

Here are two wonderful lists from which to teach your student. I found the first two for you; good luck with the rest of them.

Me.

P.S. Using the dogpile meta-search engine, I typed in the following search: (commonly used words in economics)
