One for the 'babies' on this forum, who weren't around for part or all of the 70's or 80's:

The Port Arthur Massacre in Tasmania, just weeks after the Dunblane killings in Scotland, stand out for me,

The collapse of the Soviet Union,

Nirvana & Never Mind:

Here's a cheat sheet, for those so inclined:

I'm a child of the 80s (born in '76) but I'll play:

High School

first car

clinton put our state on the map (way to go, slick willie)!

Weed

Bud Ice

Soundgarden

Lollapalooza

Type O Negative

Pantera

Prong

Nine Inch Nails

Jerry Springer

Netscape

the 90s didn't have much to offer, IMHO. I mean for real, who talks about 90's fashion?

There is only one thing worth remembering from the 90s, the greatest even in Irish history and the real reason the Celtic Tiger kicked off.

Of course I'm talking about the 1990 world cup.

I was 7 and without really understanding the mania going on around me could feel it. My mom was saddled with all the kids from the area as the menfolk went to the bars to watch it. I'll always remember my cousin headbutting our kitchen wall over and over in betweenpenalties in the second round match up vs Romania. Just to relieve the tension. I was running around in circles.

After the Quarter final loss to Italy my little brother cut his own hair in an attempt to look like the Italian goal scorer, Schillaci(sp). I didn't forgive him for years.

A defining moment in Irish history and I was too young to really appreciate it, but at least I remember it. Italia 90 baby..I still have that yellow packie bonner shirt.

USA 94 was a real let down I can tell you. A precursor to the flashiness but ultimate emptiness of Celtic Tiger era Ireland.

I'm not sure what Korea/Japan 2002 represents except maybe proof that a grown man can cry when he hears that Keano will not play. I love you still Keano.

Yep, that was a big one. I was there. Not actually on site when the shooting started, but in the general area. Living in tassie and studying at the hobart campus uni tas. Was riding back through the area and curious about all the commotion going on.....

One of the people I was doing the TESOL course with a couple of years back was/is one of the prison psych nurses at risdon prison and in the charge of martin bryant (the shooter). Apparently never shown any sign of remorse.

I was a West coast transplant subletting a studio in Midtown NYC and developed two lifelong passions; rap music (not hip hop) and Dutch Masters.

Say word!

Born in 82
I remember
Early 90's
* those <Slap Bracelets>
*Penny Candy at the corner store
*Spending all of my money on baseball cards. And I would check their value using a Beckett.
*Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer were cool and then they were gone by 1992.
*Our beloved hero Michael Jackson started becoming really wierd.
*Rollerblades displaced roller skates.
*Having a CD Player or CD's was a status symbol. Wow! No rewinding your favorite song!
*Gulf War Trading Cards. The George HW Bush Card was worth $40.
For some reason, we stopped going to the drive in movie theatres. Low and behold, they were all gone.
My aunt had a Mac computer, and it was the coolest thing in the world.

Mid 90's. I remember
*Wondering what the heck a USSR was?
*Pluto was a planet. RIP (It'll always be the 9th planet to me)
*Dinosaurs were still lizards(which I still maintain that they are).
Going to the movies suddenly got really expensive.
The never ending OJ trial
The Uni Bomber
The World Wide Web appeared.
Beavis and Butthead

Nevermind showed up on my radio and I thought,

Yes, our long Warrant-led cultural nightmare is now over!

And then a few years later that entire musical movement collapsed in upon itself, leaving us with the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys.
