I think the mods have a strange sense of what "not playing nice" means.

Onwards:

Quote:
If there were a threat level on the possibility of war with Iran, it might have just gone up to orange. Barnett Rubin, the highly respected Afghanistan expert at New York University, has written an account of a conversation with a friend who has connections to someone at a neoconservative institution in Washington. Rubin cant confirm his friends story; neither can I. But its worth a heads-up:

They [the sources institution] have instructions (yes, that was the word used) from the Office of the Vice-President to roll out a campaign for war with Iran in the week after Labor Day; it will be coordinated with the American Enterprise Institute, the Wall Street Journal, the Weekly Standard, Commentary, Fox, and the usual suspects. It will be heavy sustained assault on the airwaves, designed to knock public sentiment into a position from which a war can be maintained. Evidently they dont think theyll ever get majority support for thisthey want something like 35-40 percent support, which in their book is plenty.

True? I dont know. Plausible? Absolutely. It follows the pattern of the P.R. campaign that started around this time in 2002 and led to the Iraq war. The Presidents rhetoric on Iran has been nothing short of bellicose lately, warning of the shadow of a nuclear holocaust....

More Here

Discuss.

Quote:
After all, Bush got the current fever of speculation going with his speech last week to the American Legion, warning: "Iran's active pursuit of technology that could lead to nuclear weapons threatens to put a region already known for instability and violence under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust. He declared that the US and its allies would confront Iran before it is too late."

The rhetoric's not original, and neither is the mentality in the White House, and neither is the bravado of Ahmedinejad. Bush might be trying to jam the Europeans into sanctions. Of course, he doesn't do nuance. He talks this way...

So perhaps the rollout is imminent? I have to say that I take seriously Hanson's going to the trouble of arguing that Bush shouldn't panic about Iran...

Then, for comic relief, there's Ollie North lauding Joe Lieberman for warning that the Persian wolf is at the gates, and scolding Democrats for "passivity."

But here's the point of this post: Forget what Ollie North means by passivity. There's a genuine passivity to fear. The Democrats have to stand up this week, loud, clear, and demonstrative, and declare that they will not get hustled into supporting a mindless, counterproductive attack on Iran. They will not appropriate funds for it. Half of them in the Senate got hustled at the equivalent moment in 2002 and now regret it, even if are only willing to use the euphemism "if I knew then what I know now."...

Bush to attack Iran?

Not likely. His hands are full with two wars already. The troops are stretched to the breaking point. Now that the surge appears to have had some success according to the commanders in the field...now would be the worst possible time to open up a third front.

We agree with you. Why the rhetoric, then? When has Bush not acted after his use of rabid war talk?

Irrelevant. (At least to BuCheney). You've not been reading.

This is cute.

There will never be a good time. Why don't you go whisper in Bush's ear. Maybe he'd listen to one of his own. Oh! What am I saying?? How many capable generals did he go through to get to his yes man?

I am surprised and heartened by your thoughts on this.

What an intelligent thing to say: I don't like you, so go kill yourself if you are wrong.

And you discuss morality? I do believe they've got a job waiting for you in the Bush DoJ.

Now, you got anything to say on Bush's war crimes? Or are those OK with you?

Is this thread about W. Bush's alleged war-crimes? I thought it alleged W. Bush was setting himself up as "dictator-for-life."

Or is the whole thing just another pretext that you created and then seized to harangue the rest of us on your more-radical-than-radical worldview indefinitely?

You destest W. Bush and the mere mention of him -- or the mere mention of anything else at all in the realm of politics (e.g., Hugo Chavez) -- makes you foam at the mouth and exposes you for your true self as the world's first male, shrieking harpy.

We get it, BLT. Message received. But no amount of these threads will ever win us over to your world. Time to move on to bigger and better things now.

Once again, gopher, you have said nothing. How does such a vaunted intelligence get backed into the straw man argument time and again?

Eighth wonder of the world...

Answer the question, C/N-C's.

I answered your stupid-ass question before you ever asked it: I said far back in the thread that there is a 50% chance for a declaration of a State of Emergency and a 75% chance of it if we attack Iran. Will Bush stay in office? I do not know and have not stated - ever - a certainty that he would.

But facts and truth are anethema to maintaining a house of cards built with a pack of lies, so I'm sure this doesn't interest you C/N-C's.

I would say that if it looks clearly like a progressive will gain the WH and the Dems will get useful majorities in both the Senate and the House, that the likelihood goes up.

Three possibilities arise: The State of Emergency (Two have already been declared.), another election taken by fraud, or both.

Now answer my question: What should be done about this administration's war crimes?

Nothing. There have been no war crimes. Show me where this adminstration has been convicted and sentenced in a court of law. Until then the worst thing that can be said is alleged war crimes.

OR do you not believe in the West's system of justice "Innocent until proven guilty."? And proven means in A COURT OF LAW. Not by spreading Michael Moore type lies and misinformation on a messageboard.

And NOTHING YOU say will EVER change that. [/i]
