What drugs would you test for?

Would marijuana be included?

How about alcohol?

Sure marijuana would be included in a standard drug test but alcohol would not as it is not illegal now is it?

But, I have no idea how they could effectively implement this policy. I just think it might happen at some point especially for teachers who are going to be teaching children.

Again, some people really do bring crap onto themselves. Doing drugs in any foreign country with strict drug laws is just a dumb thing to do. If you do get busted, you are on your own as no one will be able to help you out. Just because they have lax drug laws with pot back in most western countries, it does not mean that this is an international norm....poor dudes anyway.

As for this: Screw the laws, I have my own moral compass that I go by. ...

Good luck with that compas K-boy...it might land you in jail because well...most countries on Earth will not see your personal moral compass as relevant if you get busted for using drugs...but nice idea mate. Laughing

Pee for enjoyment, not for employment.

I don't do drugs, never have. However, I still think drug tests are a bit too Big Brotherish. Having said that, I've taken them to get jobs at places that only paid $7-8/hr. Oh well.

Just yesterday my boss was asking if I'd heard about this. He said he received some paperwork from Gyeonggi Province informing him of this story, and to keep a close watch on any foreign instructors at our school.

He said "Of course I know you don't use drugs. But be careful outside of work." He also told me (in a half-joking way??) not to have sex with the students. Shocked

Wow, no wonder these dudes got nailed. W30 million worth of hash
for 20 uses!!! The guys pipe must have been the size of a steam
locomotive to blast through that much of the good stuff in just 20
tokes.

True story: A few years ago I got home from work. Five minutes
later these guys were banging on the door. When I opened it they
said they were from the prosecutor's office and had a search warrant.
I was made to sit on the sofa while they went through my pad with
a fine tooth comb. During this time they were saying to me that if
I gave a confession now things would be easier. (any idiot knows
never tell cops anything, ever - deny, deny, deny) After the fruitless
search they took me to the "Gom-Chal-So" (prosecutor's office) I was
taken to the basement and had these idiots screaming in my face that
I was a drug user and I should confess - now! Finally they gave me
pee tests for everything: Blow, pot, PCP etc. While these were
maturing they were still trying to cut a deal. The tests came up all
negative. (thank god) After that one of guys said sorry, gave me
10,000won for the taxi and showed me to the door. This sounds
kind of funny, but it gave me a slight case of PTSD later. I think it
was an ex-girlfriend that ratted me out. What saved me? A dry spell
in my supply chain of about a month-and-a-half! haha

Can anyone give me a good reason why teachers should have to be drugs-tested and undergo a medical examination before they're given a visa?

(And don't say 'because drugs are illegal' - I want a GOOD reason.)

You appear to be very concerned about the welfare of children and I commend you for that.

But if you were seriously concerned, wouldn't you want to know if the teacher teaching your child was an alcoholic or not?

Wouldn't you be concerned if you found out the teacher teaching your child was out every night getting drunk?

Or how about PX drugs. What if you found out a teacher had become addicted to Valium? Or was a mannic depressive, or was taking extremely strong pain killers?

I mean let's be fair here. If you were really concerned abou the children, why would you draw the line at illegal drugs. Many legal drugs lead to problems which in turn could affect one's ability as a teacher.

They got arrested.

No sympathy here whatsoever.

You play...you pay.

Yes many of these drugs are no more harmless than alcohol but THEY ARE ILLEGAL. WHAT PART OF THAT DO PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND. It simply is not like jaywalking or speeding.

You get jail time and now this will show up anytime you apply for a VISA to a foreign country.

MORONS...If you are stupid enough to get caught with drugs in a foreign country that is not all that hospitable towards foreigners in general then tough. You did the crime now you get to to do the time.

Jade

God, shut up you stupid cynic. Have you ever considered that maybe the law should be different? Think out side the box a little. Just because it's illegal or legal doesn't make it bad or good. Having slaves in the states used to be legal and alcohol used to be illegal and ect. Screw the laws, I have my own moral compass that I go by. They did something stupid, but they don't deserve jail time period. I

Regarding drug tests, bear in mind Korea might only be catching up to North America on that idea. How many companies require drug tests? A friend, a CA, had to take a drug test to get hired on at TD Trust. Geez, she's hardly flying a plane or driving a bus. You would think if the trust funds she managed were performing badly, she'd be judged by that standard.

For harder drugs perhaps.

But why should they be able to test for marijuana?

BECAUSE IT IS ILLEGAL! GEEZ LOUISE IS THAT FACT COMPLETELY UNFATHOMABLE.

They check for it in the states too. I am of the opinion that many here have never worked in the private sector. Most employers require drug testing and the test includes pot.
