Often on Dave's we hear a lot about the rudeness of Koreans. However, we also often fail to recognize that a lot of us aren't that polite either.

So, I ask now if you think you are polite. Do you say "Please" and "Thank you?" Do you open the door for people? Do you offer to pay the bill for others in your party? Do you give your seat on the bus/subway to the old man or woman that just got on?

Also, I'm not referring to internet message board etiquette, or your Dave's persona. I mean you, in real life.

So do you consider yourself polite?

I'd say I'm courteous and polite, but often in an unfriendly way. I consider it polite to suggest a person standing on the left side of the elevator move, either by standing extremely close or making them hear my footsteps, and I consider it polite to not talk to someone until you've been introduced formally. Both of those things are certainly unfriendly though.

Sub-species of anthropoid apes would appear polite alongside the embarrassing filth from the colonies in Korea. Laughing

I'm very polite in practice but rude in my mind. When I go to the big box Korean department stores, I just can't bring myself to ram my cart into other people and smash past them in the aisles. But in my head I'm screaming, "Let's not stop our cart in the middle of incoming traffic, you moron! Just gooooooooooooooooooooo!!!"

I would consider myself a rather polite person, and I do enjoy showing acts of kindness and politeness to complete strangers, it's nice to make a stranger smile. However, if someone is openly rude to me, not just Koreans, then I have no qualms in reciprocate the rudeness. If someone stares at me i'll stare back.

Surprisingly, I'm one of the more polite people I know when I'm out and about. Probably because I have a small child and significant other in tow, who is ridiculously polite.

In the car, however, is a completely different story.

I used to say "bless you" after someone sneezed, but no one does that here, so I stopped. I also stopped saying "Excuse Me" to get someones attention or if I bump them, because no one does that either. All you need is a YOGIYO!!!!! and someone comes running. Very convenient.

I am ridiculously polite all the time. I got a speeding ticket off a police man and thanked him for it.

But there is a lot of oneofthesarahs in me (if that sounds rude and impolite, my apologies) Facade - Choir boy. Inside - out of my way.

Sometimes the politest people are indeed the rudest when all the please and thank you sirs have been removed.

It depends what is meant by polite.

"That's facking great, mate!" is far more polite in spirit than a terse "Thanks."

Oooo too true. If I had a swear box in my car, I would be a very poor man.
