Degree Fraudster Becomes Unwitting Taste-Maker

Bogus degree scandal originator Shin Jeong-ah has become a fashion trend-setter. When the former Dongguk University assistant professor was photographed at JFK Airport in New York in July, she was wearing a white cap, blue jeans and a gray t-shirt.
The t-shirt featured a print of two clowns in rumpled clothing. At first glance, it seems like any other cotton t-shirt. But even a month later netizens are still talking about the shirt on message boards, calling it "eye-catching" and wanting to know the brand.

The so-called "Shin shirt" was made by British designer Alexander McQueen, from his McQ line aimed at 20-somethings. McQ t-shirts usually cost around W200,000 (US$1=W938). The brand was only recently launched in Korea and is available at just one or two department stores in Seoul. Currently, it's hard to find the Shin shirt since it has short sleeves.

An official from a department store in Apgujeong said, "McQ products are sought mainly by young women looking for a unique casual style. A lot of people wanted to buy the Shin Jeong-ah t-shirt, but some have left empty-handed because we didn't have enough in stock."

Interesting taste in fine art.

And it took how long to figure her out?

Did her museum buy any paintings of dogs playing poker, by any chance?

I hear they are valuable collectors items now.*

I had a housemate in college who actually had one on real black velvet on the wall of his bedroom!

What's going to bring this whole thing full circle is when people start making fake copies of the shirt. Very Happy

Yeah really. Is the reporter a 'tard or forgot to check their YBM-Sisa electronic dictionary?

Oh man. Yes, there was a time if you had a custom van with an airbrushed image of an indian princess thrusting about in a macrame bikini in front of a teepee (or a nude woman riding a colonial Viper bareback) and you had a painting of Elvis on velvet hung up in your van's plush room, you were a man of wealth and taste. There could be no doubt about it.
