My elecrtic bill shot up like a rocket. I know its based on usage.
All I want to know, is when does the usage level reset? Is it every 4 months? 6 months? Does it ever reset? |

My wife has some contacts with KEPCO Korea Electric Power plant Corp. She'll ask them on Monday and I'll get back to you if I can find this thread. |

Isn't an electric bill charged on monthly usage? Just because your August bill may be high from air conditioning doesn't mean your September bill should be high from it.
Where do you get that something has to reset for it to be cheaper again? The only that should be reset is that your usage decreases from turning off the air conditioner and then these air conditioners are small and energy efficient so it should still be affordable, especially if you kept it turned off while outside and used it sparingly while inside. They are not like big American air conditioners, but are small units that do the trick in a not so hot place like Korea. I ran a big powerful air conditioner in the US as the US is much warmer for 5 months out of the year and the electric bill would top only about 100,000 won or US $100 per month. Here, my electric bill was only about 20,000 won without air conditioning which is about the same as mine in the US during the Winter months. We will see what roughly 80 hours of small unit air conditioning during August costs... |

I believe its on a tiered system. They track your usage and once you exceed a certain amount, your rates increase dramatically.
I used exactly 13 kWh LESS in August than in July. My bill is 3 times HIGHER than in July. |

As a completely wild guess it may be that the apartment switched to having everyone pay the same amount, that is, the average of the whole building. So they just figure out the total amount of electricity used by the whole building and have everyone pay the average, singles and four-person families alike. That once happened to me with my heating bill, which shot from 35,000 to over 200,000. |
